They do it because they don't have the facts. They do it out of ignorance. I have more respect for people who come to me with their concerns to ascertain the facts, than for someone who goes behind my back and reports me based on their assumptions. I have a big igloo doghouse in my front yard. Igloos are known for being insulated and holding dog's heat and they provide good shelters for dogs. I put a big quilted blanket in it and a heating pad! If you see a dog outside in the snow, so what, that's their nature to go outside and stretch and play. If you see adequate shelter in the yard don't report people for animal abuse, you're just wasting your time and everybody involved... the person you're reporting will NOT get in trouble for providing adequate shelter.

If you see a dog being tortured, or tied up to a tree with no food or water in freezing weather, that's when you report animal abuse.

you name your dog, "Stay"? It would be very confusing for the dog if you kept calling him to you by saying, ".....Come here...Stay.." "Come here...Stay."

First Question -- I know that changing a dog's food can be disruptive to their dietary tract, but what if I feed them earlier on days that I'm home, and later on days that I work? So long as we can exercise 1/2 hr to 1hr later, is it okay to switch up the feeding schedule?

Second Question - Sometimes when my Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound drinks water too quickly, she starts this wheezing sort of reverse cough. I've read a lot about the reverse cough, but what does it have to do with drinking the water quickly? Is she drowning herself sticking her snout in the water too? She recovers in moments, but that cough is scary.

Thanks for your help!

The reason I am asking is because we have a litter of 7pups that are three weeks old. They are almost pure black, short coated, and very big. I've never seen another cross like it. They'll be fabulous family dogs going by their personalities but I'd love to be pointed to pictures. Thanks in advance.

My 8 week old pomeranian puppy has fleas.

The breeder who I got her from put a drop of Advantix on her the day I got her (which was yesterday). Since then, me and my fiance have picked probably 10 live fleas off of her. She keeps scratching, about every 10 seconds (no joke) and I feel so bad for her.

I went to the petshop and bought an 'herbal flea and tick shampoo' that was supposed to soothe her itching but it didnt work. I didnt have much selection, as most flea shampoos and dips are for puppies 12 weeks and older and contain harmful pestisides for young pups. The vet is closed until tomorrow and one of my friends gave me some puppy Advantage but I dont want to put two doses of flea medicine on her (since she already got the Advantix). ADVICE??

My pit is very jealous of my puppy. At first they used to be really tight and played with each other alot. But every time my pit saw my hugging or playing with my puppy, he'll get jealous. One day he got so jealous that he attacked my puppy. Until then every single time he sees him he attacks him. They cant be in the same room or my pit will hurt my puppy. He attacked him 7 times and the last time he did my puppy almost died and we had to send him to the hospital were he had to get surgery on his neck. Now the pit bull is outside, but I just want everything to be just like it was before the attacks. But now im to afraid to even let both of them see each other because i dont know what could happen next. Can somebody please help me and my doggies?

we've had him for alittle over a month. he's 6 months old. i've been working hard with him to try and get him house and potty trained. but i'm about at my witts end. i take him outside, NO JOKE, 10 times a day! and when i' can't watch him he goes in his kennel. but yet he still pisses and craps all over my house. now i could understand if he was dirty, or if my house was dirty. but i clean my house everyday, and he gets a haircut every 3 weeks, and i've bathed him 3 times since hes been here. he chews on all my stuff, my furniture is ruined. and i give him toys to play with. i just shampooed my carpet, and it looks like a reck again. hes not even 10 lbs. hes a small dog. sounds like i would have a german shephard living here. i just don't know what else to do. i'm thinking about giving him up if i can't get him trained soon. i'm a stay at home mom, so i'm here all the time. he gets all the attention he needs. i don't know what i'm doing wrong.

I had this dog for over a year and since the begining he does not act like my past dogs which pees on every tree? This dog i walk him for hours and he pees once sometimes not even once. Im getting very frustrated with him.
I litter box trained him with news papers in it and it was working for a bit now its just gone down hill. If he does urinate he does it right next to the box? What is wrong with this guy he is completely healthy.

I live in a 1500sq ft. condo. My girlfriend and I agreed on a medium sized to a large size dog but couldn't decide on a breed. I love Huskies or Malamutes. We learned today that Malamutes can get really big and heavy. She wants a Golden Retriever which is also okay with me. But our question is...would those types of dogs be okay in the size of place we live in? We are looking for a dog that can be home alone during the day while we are at work, but will get plenty of love and activities when we get home. Suggestions?

I have a Great Dane and I used to have a Rat Terrier but we had to give her to a family friend becuase she didn't like the Great Dane and kept peeing in the house, she was trying to mark her teritory. If I get a little dog when it's a puppy and get it used to the Great Dane would it be okay? The Great Dane is very gentle, but would he squash the dog on accident? I plan on mostly keeping the dog with me, but if I leave it home, like to go to school or tennis, would he hurt her/him while trying to play?

What kind of dog would be best according to what I want:

-I want a really little dog.

-I already feed my Great Dane and take him outside to go to the bathroom everyday, so one more wouldn't be a problem.

-I don't really want a yappy dog, is there any small yet calm/nice dog breed?

-My neighbors had a Shih Tzu. She was the sweetest dog ever and she was really cute when they kept her hair short. She was the nicest dog I ever saw, would a Shih Tzu be a good dog for me?

Last summer there was a big fat long garden snake in the yard and my friend saw it after he tore up the yard looking for it but it had went in back of wood pile under shed. My friend assured me it was a garden snake which I've never seen one that big but I am worried if it comes back this summer even since there are woods in back of the house but the house is fenced in. I have two other small dogs but the chihuahua will be very small. Will this garden snake attack it if I don't find it in time? The yard is very big and pretty much clear it has a couple of palm trees surrounded by bushes w/ a pool. I live in Fl. I'm just worried I don't want anything to happen to my chihuahua.

I am looking at getting a Bichon Frise/ whippet mix dog. I have always wanted a purebred Bichon, but I don't have the money to buy any, so I decided to adopt from a wonderful Sheltie breeder who is a family friend.
Anyway, could I enter it in agility competitions in America, even though it isn't a purebred?

Thanks in advanced!
