My Yorkie Urinates only twice a day is that a problem? Potty train in litter box?

I had this dog for over a year and since the begining he does not act like my past dogs which pees on every tree? This dog i walk him for hours and he pees once sometimes not even once. Im getting very frustrated with him.
I litter box trained him with news papers in it and it was working for a bit now its just gone down hill. If he does urinate he does it right next to the box? What is wrong with this guy he is completely healthy.

It's perfectly normal for small dogs to not need to go to the bathroom that often.

Mostly its very confusing/stressful for a dog trying to please its master--that wants him sometimes to go inside in the litter box and sometimes outside on a walk. Dogs enjoy the walking. It doesnt understand that you walking for hours is frustrating. Your dog imagines that as a human you would stop walking when you wanted to stop. So the logical step is that you enjoy walking as much as your dog does. Why are you trying to teach the dog to go inside as well as outside anyway? Remember you are the pack leader and in charge.

I've had several small dogs. My last one went once or twice a day. My sister's dog (when I lived with her) sometimes only went every other day. She isnt very active and doesn't drink much water. They never had accidents in the house--that was how often they really needed to go.

First of all, not all dogs are territorial as your previous dogs may have been. My dog only pees once, if that, when we go for a walk. Because sometimes she won't when we need her to (leaving her alone for a few hours) we developed a command. Try saying "go pee" or something of the sort to signal that it is time for him to do his stuff.

As for the litterbox, he is probably not using it because you were not consistant in training him. Even one slip up can undo all the progress you have made. He is urinating next to the box as a protest.

I don't think anything is wrong with him, but he just needs to be retrained, right from the start. Start the training you used as a puppy with him all over again, including excessive treats/rewards, and he should start using it again.
