Everytime i leave my 10mth old female dog she poohs on the newspaper by the back door. I have tried removing the paper and she poohs on the floor by the door. When we are at home she asks to go out and is perfectly housetrainned. We don't know what to do.

If it's got to go, it's got to go, it needs a tray

i saw a similar behavoural pattern with a dog on Dog Borstal and it would seem that the dog was attention seeking. The problem was solved by not drawing attention to the unwanted behaviour,ie just clearing it up and totally ignoring the dog. On the other hand if she doesn't pooh make a big fuss of her. It worked with this dog so i reckon it's worth a try.

she needs to be trained to do her business at certain times only. Once you've got the regime of her digestive/bowel timing sorted, she should poo on cue at the right times, i.e. when you're home. As she's young and left to her own devices the urge to go will be all over the place. Our dog went out first thing in the morning and last thing at night, she never made a mess after she was your dog's age. Good luck.

The fact that it poos by the door and in the same area each time shows that she is housetrained and needs to go to the loo.

Maybe you are leaving her alone in the house for too long, puppies should not be left for longer than 2-3hrs really; unless you don't mind them pooing. Its a natural doggy need I'm afraid.

The fact she poos by the door shows she wanted to go out and waited by the door to be let out but nobody came and let her out.

i don't see what the problem is she probably needs to go you can not time when you need the loo at least she is going on the paper she needs just a little more training and she will be fine carry on doing what you are doing and all will turn out OK but always leave her something to drink its not a case of nothing going in nothing coming out good luck

Dogs need to go when they need to go. Your dog is probably "asking" to go out. When no one lets it out - well, it goes. Dogs need to be taken outside on a schedule so that they can connect going outside with the desired behavior. When they make that connection they stop going indoors. Get your dog on a schedule. Have a friend or neighbor take it out at least once while you are away. One other thought. Your dog might be getting even with you for you leaving it alone. If so, contact a qualified trainer. Good luck!

Why dont you put a litter tray by the back door. Your dog seems quite intellegent to me, and has become used to going to the toilet by the back door. At least she is doing her business on a paper as against the carpet.

we had a similar problem. Word association training really helped and got us out of this one. Have a look at the link: In particular house traing! And on the subject of separation anxiety. Good luck - am sure your dog will get out of this pretty quickly, because you got her already clean in other situations.

MAKE YOUR GARDEN SECURE AND GET A DOG FLAP
THEY ARE LIKE CAT FLAPS THE DOG LETS ITS SELF OUT
SO NO MORE POOH ON YOUR FLOOR AND YOU DO NOT HAVE TO KEEP OPENING THE DOOR WHEN YOU ARE ON YOUR P.C.

Find a sufficiently sized kennel/ crate for your dog. Whenever you are not there the dog should be put away. It will start to recognize this as it's den. Dogs can be very protective of their den and will want to keep it clean. Then it will probably only go in its den in emergency cases only.

Why isn't it ok for her to poo on the newspaper? Lots of people train their dogs to go on a newspaper.
