What do you think of people who buy their vaccinations for their dogs, and do it themselves? Or buy their heartguard medicine online? If the person is doing everything timely and stuff, does that still make them a stupid pet owner?

I ask because sometimes I feel kind of weird that I only take my dog to the vet if she does seem sick (or for when she had her rabies shot, microchip and spay). But any "well dog" care, I do myself. The vaccine for distemper, etc (so called 7 in one)only costs 4.50 at a pet supply store. I get a 6 month supply of heartguard for 15 bucks online.

Opinions?

Has anyone been harrassed by a dog or cat breeder? And if so, why?

I posted the same question earlier except that I just realized, the spot is on her eye. Basically, my 7 yr old Husky/Rot Mix has a black spot, mass growing on her eye from the inner corner of the tear duct almost all the way to the pupil. Can or does anyone know what this is? Any vet or vet techs out there? Thank you!

I read that dogs are usually in heat for about 6 weeks. My chihuahua has been in heat for about 10 weeks or more now. She is still bleeding some, still swelling, etc.

Could something be wrong? Should I take her to the vet immediately, or just wait and ask at her next appointment? Anyone else have this problem or know what the cause might be?

My family and I are teaching our "old "dog (only 3 yrs) new tricks. Or I should say more obedience. He knows the basics, sit, lay down, come, crate, go. He's not too good with sit stay but we are working on that. Anyway some of us train him with treats and some of us are training him with praise. Good boy, thatta boy, lots of pets and love when he obeys. He responds to both but Of course treats are his favorite but I feel in an emergency when we need him to obey immediately we may not have a treat with us. Is either or both ok to do?

He is being crate trained. He rarely barks, unless he needs to go to the bathroom. Hes only been in the house a week and already relieves himself outside. If we dont take him out every 2 hours he'll go in his cage. But the biting is nonstop. What do I do?

I have a male english bulldog who's 17 months old. I housetrained him as a puppy and he was more than perfect. He wouldn't cause any trouble in the house. In fact he could hold it in for many hours. Starting on Christmas Eve, he started urinating in his sleep, even though I'd take him out just before he went to sleep. SInce I haven't caught him in the act I cannot raise my voice to him because he'll get all confused. I took him to the vet and he told me that he's very healthy and that perhaps I did something to him that irritated him and by urinating he's getting back at me. As far as I know nothing in my behavior has changed whatsoever. Should I start confining him in his crate overnight? I haven't used his crate for over a year now. I'm very concerned and I don't want the overnight urination to become a permanent habbit of his. I'm very frustrated here, your help and advice will be greatly appreciated!

We have a Yellow Labrador about 9-10 years old. He was doing fine until maybe 3 weeks or so ago. He got to where it seems that both of his back legs are 'stiff' and he has trouble getting up, walking, etc. He's not himself anymore. He has been doing crazy things like going to the far back part of the back yard sleeping there the whole night. In cold rains, freezing cold nights, etc. He has a dog house up near the house, with a nice warm blanket in it that he knows is there (and sleeps in during the day). Lately he always has stuff around his eyes, like they have been watering a lot and the "sleepy" stuff runs down his face and dries. My mom said she saw him scratching at his eyes before. He's lost a lot of weight, and won't eat much, if at all. Acts like he's in pain to move and walk, particularly with his back legs. Sometimes he seems 'lost' and just stands and stares at stuff for no reason. My family can't really afford a vet. We've been trying to give him aspirin in moderation.

This dog will be around 2 teens, 1 baby, 1 cat, and whatever walks in the door. It will be camping, taken on many walks, and out back a lot, but also will spend a lot of time in front of the fireplace. The dog needs to be calm, friendly, some what obediant, and quiet. The family is in and out of the house a lot so the dog needs to be one that will behave itself and the dog also needs to be smart. The baby will push and pull on the dog sometimes so it needs to be patiant and not agressive and just let the baby puch and pull on it. This dog cannot be very small like a chiwawa or too big like a saint bernard. And the family looking for the dor doesn't like poodles or bull dogs or anything that resembles them. This dog definately needs to be loving and willing to be part of the family.

I just got a two month old pit bull, and I love him. He's really sweet. Problem is I keep reading all this negative stuff about the pup. Will he really turn on you at any moment...or be a bad pup?
