I have a male english bulldog who's 17 months old. I housetrained him as a puppy and he was more than perfect. He wouldn't cause any trouble in the house. In fact he could hold it in for many hours. Starting on Christmas Eve, he started urinating in his sleep, even though I'd take him out just before he went to sleep. SInce I haven't caught him in the act I cannot raise my voice to him because he'll get all confused. I took him to the vet and he told me that he's very healthy and that perhaps I did something to him that irritated him and by urinating he's getting back at me. As far as I know nothing in my behavior has changed whatsoever. Should I start confining him in his crate overnight? I haven't used his crate for over a year now. I'm very concerned and I don't want the overnight urination to become a permanent habbit of his. I'm very frustrated here, your help and advice will be greatly appreciated!

Are you positive that he doesn't have a bladder infection? Did the vet do a urinanalysis and bloodwork to check? My male French Bulldog got a bladder infection about a year ago and he would urinate in the house, he couldn't hold it for more than about 2-4 hours.

If he was checked for a bladder infection and he doesn't have one, I would start taking away his water about 2 hours before you go to bed and then take him out to potty right before you go to bed. I also would start crating him, that way if he is still is urinating it will at least be easier to clean up. I would go get a washable pee pad called pooch pads, they also come in crate pads.

I hope this helps and Good Luck!

i would start with the crate for overnights to begin with. see if he can hold it in there overnight. if not take him back to the vet. did they do a urinalysis? if not they should just to check there is no infection. sometimes like us, our dogs go through a phase and these adorable personality plus dogs sometimes will act out like any child. so if your vet can't find anything wrong i would do the crate thing for a week and if no accidents in the crate, let him out again and see how that goes. good luck.

im not sure where you are but if you are in colder climate and leave the dog in a semi warm porch with the chance of laying on cold cement he could have a cold in his kidneys or a bladder infection. Another possible thing is excessive weight gain. a dog gaining 7-11 lbs would be like you gaining 40-50lbs that could have an adverse effect on its health. Something else you could look into is diabetes. its not overly common in bulldogs but its something that you could look into as well.
