Who own dogs that have a pit fighting history to complain about how their breed of dog is persecuted against? I own a dog that had a pit history long ago, an Akita. I understand though that people who own dogs that dont have a fighting history could be scared of my breed of dog. You always hear of Pit Bull owners especially complaining about how there breed of dogs are persecuted but (And this is the question) Should they have an open mind and understand why people are scared. Should the Pit bull owners and Rottweiller and Akita etc be more understanding?

Check out this site and find out. Many times Pit bulls get blamed because people can't tell one breed from another.

My friend is disable. His disability is not physical but mental. His attachment to his pet is what keeps him focused, stable. Is there a way to make/have this dog categorized as a service dog?

I got it from my bro-inlaw. The government want to do it. I don't know if it is true. I know in some counties in Florida ban you from owning a pit bull. If any one knows what is going on please inform me. I don't beleive everything I hear on the net so I wan to check into it.

My dog steals socks out of the hamper. He usually just sits in the living room with them hanging out of his mouth, until someone notices. When he sees that we see him, he starts shaking a little. We'll grab the sock and sternly say "Drop it!" Then we return the sock to the hamper.

Half the time, he drops it. But the rest of the time, he flips onto his back, exposes his tummy, and cries, still holding onto the sock.

To me, it seems as though he knows he isn't supposed to have the sock, yet he won't let go. Why? Is there something in our response that is encouraging his sock-stealing?

We do not hit him, and neither did his previous owners. His previous owners did bribe him with treats to get him to drop the socks, so they pretty much trained him to steal socks.

I've recently purchased a DAP difuser (one that plugs in) for my 6 month old puppy who is very attached to me and cries loudly and constantly when I'm gone (I can hear him from more than a block away!). I'll be going back to work part-time soon, and I'm trying to slowly get him used to spending time alone. The DAP seemed to help the first few times we used it. But the last time I used it he cried (more like screaming really!) the whole time I was gone and when I got back he ran all over looking for where the DAP scent was coming from. He's done that several times. When he finds it, he sniffs at it madly, almost as if he thinks it's another dog. If I unplug it, he runs like mad all over the apartment looking for the scent. Does anyone have any experience with DAP? What about the collars or the spray, how do they work?

I have had him since he was a pup, He was easy to house and has never distroyed anything....Then I got a female, She is 5 months old now and I can't seem to house train her completely. I take her outside about every hour and anytime she seems to be sniffing or searching. Still no luck. she is better than she was but it is getting old. There are times when I take her outside and then within 5 minutes of returning to the house she goes potty inside. I am at whits end...any suggestions?

i have a shitzhu there is nothing wrong with it's diet and it is treated nice every single day, but recently he has started to get mardy. He is not an old dog, but he growls if you stroke him, talk to him or even look at him. He never used to be like this and there is no reason for him to have turned this way. Dog schools are out of the question, so what can i do at home?

I have a pit bull (ok, stop shaking your head now) and he is a runt. He is almost a year old and won't get much bigger than he is now. My husband and I have taken VERY good care of him. He is smart, SWEET, house trained, and very gentle with children and anyone else he sees. We did not train him to be an attack dog. He won't even bark is a stranger comes to the house. That being said - here is the sad news (No, he didn't turn):::

My husband and I both are being transferred to Rankin County, MS, which has a ban on pit bulls and rott weilers (not to mention we are moving into an apartment complex). We have no one to give our baby to, and no one that is interested in having him wants him for the right reasons. We love our dog very much, and do not want to get rid of him, but we have no choice.
HELP!!! I don't know what to do!! I do not want him to rot in an animal shelter!!

I just had an awful dream last night. I have 3 great danes, and my bedroom is on the second floor of our old farmhouse. In my dream, the stairs were up in flames and the only way out was the window. I have no problem getting out, but i have no idea how to get my 150lbs+ dogs out the window safely! It was just horrible - but it got me thinking... how would you get the dogs out without injuring them. Does anyone have any (serious) suggestions?

If Rufus is on one side of the fence and a rabbit on the other, is this fence's 'static correction' as they call it, going to keep him in the yard? Scotties are very strong-willed...

He is an 8 mo. old Nova Scotian Duck Tolling Retriever. We have given him various flea treatments (drops between shoulder blades, flea shampoo) and are pretty sure fleas are not the problem (our other dog and cat show no signs of fleas). In some areas he has small reddish welts (not sure if these are from him biting himself or whether he has an allergy). We have started adding Omega oils to his food and given him some other vitamens and he still persists with the scratching and biting. Help? He's driving us nuts with constant scratching and hes biting off the hair on his butt.......
