I just got a two month old pit bull, and I love him. He's really sweet. Problem is I keep reading all this negative stuff about the pup. Will he really turn on you at any moment...or be a bad pup?

I highly suggest taking your new love to obedience school to get him properly trained. You will read negative stuff about EVERY dog breed out there. The problem is someone has a bad time with them and its made public, especially with pitbulls. I hope that you got your pup from a reputable breeder. They have such a bad name because of fighting and what not, but I think if you get a pup and you train it correctly and you treat it right, then it should be grateful right back to you. With a breed like this, I suggest that you don't play games like tug of war and wrestling with him. That will only encourage him to be aggressive. Good luck

I'm on my second pit bull and I'm a firm believer in them. Yes there's a lot of bad publicity about them and unfortunately there are very irresponsible people who shouldn't be allowed to have any animals.
Pits can be more aggressive because they were bred as hunting dogs for some very nasty critters. As long as your puppy comes from good breeding and you raise him with love and proper discipline I think you'll find that he'll be a very loyal friendly dog.
My first one was a male who loved everyone, unless he felt my uneasiness about someone, then he'd stay right by my side keeping an eye out. His favorite past time was walking through the flower beds in summer and smelling the flowers. Roses were his favorite.
The one I have now helped me raise two kittens that were only about 3 weeks old when we found them. Five years later she's very protective and loving with her "baby" kittens.
Pit bulls are very intelligent and you may need to go through a puppy training class. Letting him socialize with other animals while he's young is also important.
Don't believe all the bad things you hear about the breed, for the most part, it's the human who has made the dog mean and dangerous.
Give him lots of love and I know you'll have a friend that will always stay in your heart.

No, not at all. This is a total misconception. The dogs that attack people, be they pit bulls, rottweilers, etc do it because of the way they are raised. They are much like humans in this regard, because if all a person knows is violence, that is all you will get out of them. I know a person that has both a pit bull and a rottweiler and they are both the sweetest animals you could ever hope for. Raise your pup with love and make sure it knows it's not okay to bite and it will grow to be a great dog. Good luck.

Turning on you is total bull ****!!! The only way he'll turn on you is if you treat him badly, or if he gets some sort of mental disease, that causes ANY TYPE OF DOG!!!!! to freak on their owners!!

There's a link to a great page with all the info in pits! They origins, statistics, adoptions, care, diet, and pretty much everything you need to know about having and rasing a pit!!

Don't fall into the stereo type! I have a pit, and he's the swetest dog I ever had! My 2 yo can pretty much abuse him, and he just looks at my son like "are you done yet? can I go now?" and puts his head back down, or he'll get up and go into his little room.

He's NEVER shown agressiong towards people. Other male dogs yes, but never humans!

It's not the dog that is mean, it's how it was rasied, and who raised it, that made it that way! If you're loving and caring, then he'll be a part of the family, instead of the bread winner in the back yard, with a 30 lb chain on his neck!!

How a dog behaves largely depends on how he was brought up. Pit bulls, contrary to popular perception, are naturally very sweet -- they got a bad rep because people "trained" them to be fighters, since they are also naturally strong. You've got a young puppy. Make sure he's properly socialized, treat him well and teach him to listen to you, and you'll have Lassie in pit bull form, no doubt about it. Good luck!

Keep reading. Myths abound about these poor dogs. If you really believe any dog will become dangerous, be careful. Dogs sense when you hesitate around other dogs and people. It gives them mixed messages and anxiety.

The most important thing besides routines, excellent food, plenty of walking, exercise, and proper training is socialization. Like any kid, your dog needs to become acquainted with big, small, loud and quiet people, cats, other dogs, horses, cars, loud noises, everything you could think of when educating your pup about the world.

They need to learn. They need intellectual stimulation like puzzles, hide and seek games, and memorization, like names of people, rooms of the home, and toys. Our dog rings a bell when she wants to go out, and wipes her feet when she returns.

Unlike any other breed, Pitbulls were specifically created not to harm us. These animals were tested in the pit - the fight. Those who bit the master as they pulled the battling dogs off of each other were culled. They couldn't have the dog bite them while in a frenzy of fear.

I think dog fighting is horrible. These sweet creatures couldn't help being born. It is the decision of the owner which genes will be nurtured at home. Pitbulls weren't born mean. Please find the trainers and vets who have experience with Pits, because the myths and stupid people who think their dogs are meant to harm are too pervasive. Even in dog professionals. You have to advocate the truth for your dog.

The whole world has fallen in love with my little girl. She's a role model for other dogs in our community. I hope to get her tested for her therapy dog certification soon. She's a very sweet Pit. Just a dog.

If you care and love for the pup and train him to be nice and not attack people he'll be fine.

That is a load of crap. No dog will turn on an owner who treats him well, regardless of the breed. Bad owners create bad dogs, good owners create good dogs. End of story.

He wont be a bad dog unless you train him to be a bad dog.
Pit bulls are actually very sweat dogs.

It will depend on his Blood lines and the way he is raised as to whether or not he will be aggressive.

But... Keep in mind the Pitts are born Dog aggressive, this has nothing to do with how he is raised, it is in his nature to be this way.

You do not want my Opinion on Pitts. It won't be good.
