because they don't have thumbs and can't hold the toothbrush. sorry couldn't resist. NEVER give your dog chicken bones, they can splinter and can cause intestinal blockages, or worse perferation, both of them can be fatal. dogs are the same as people. they need dentistry care. anything that has teeth does. you can do all you can at home for your teeth, but you still need to see a dentist for regular cleanings. it's the same with your dog. bacteria can build up and get into the dog's bloodstream and cause kidney, liver and heart damage if not cleaned on a regular basis. almost 80% of all dogs over the age of 3 have some sort of periodontal disease. ask your vet what they reccomend for your pet.

They do. Given the opportunity they will chew all sorts of stuff--bones, hide, hooves, and horn--which clean their teeth.
Soft food is what generally fouls their teeth. I kept my dogs on dry food which provides some of the same cleaning benefits that bones and stuff like that do. I gave them hooves once in a while too. My vet rarely had to clean their teeth and remarked how clean they were often.

actually they do, Dogs like other animals even non domesticated animals get their dental hygiene form the things that they eat, Animals in the wild seem to not have a problem with this, because they have a diet that is rarely if ever interrupted by us, The reason the build up happens to domestic dogs is because of the types of foods that we feed them and the lack of things they have to chew on, We can help the dogs by either brushing for them, ewwww or there are special bones we can give them that will help fight the build up around the gum line and even cavities, One last thing dogs rarely get these problems because they are rarely exposed to sugar , for the simple reason it is very bad for them.

Do NOT EVER GIVE YOUR DOGS CHICKEN BONES!!!! They splinter in their throats and can cause severe problems like puncturing intestines on the way out! They have numerous bones at Pet's Mart as well as toothbrushed for you to brush for them. If you don't want to do it yourself it is offered as a grooming service at most groomers. Dental health for dogs is very important just like it is for us.

Because they can't.
But YOU could help them care for their teeth, giving them chewing "bones" made of buffalo skin, for example. It is extra for tartar, and dogs keep very good teeth.
One should give them at least two a week.

If they have only a way, they would. Unlike human, they cannot hold a toothbrush like you. Its you who must think of something that while eating, their teeth are also being cleaned.
