itchy bum or fecal matter stuck to his hair or bum

It usually means that they have worms, but if he was dewormed recently, he shouldn't! Check to make sure that his poop is clear of the darn things. He may need an additional dose.

You can also ask your vet to check your puppy's anal glands next time you take him in for an appointment. Sometimes they become blocked and need to be expressed. (but if he is just a puppy, then that is most likely not the cause of his butt dragging).

Good Luck!

he might still be passing worms, or might have something like tapeworms that most general puppy dewormers do not get. you would have to take a stool sample to your vet to make sure. do you see rice type segments in your pup's poo? if you do this is usually tapeworms. take a piece of poo with that segment in it to your vet to confirm it. but sometimes what most people think is worms is actually anal glands. dogs have glands just inside their rectum that express when the dog poo's, thus leaving their sent and marking their area. sometimes these get clogged or don't express for whatever reason and you need to take them to the vet to have the expressed for the dog. this is very common. but the pressure of these full glands will cause a dog to scoot their butts across anything to relieve the pressure. either way another trip to the vet may be in order if he keeps it up.

Maybe he's just itchy??? :)
Or on a more serious note, he could have problems with his anal glands. Not common in puppies but hey, I've seen stranger things.Talk to your vet the next time your in ,if not sooner. Diet has lots to do with that also.

It could be because the worm medicine has not killed off everything. Make sure that you gave any follow up medicine. It could also be because of him going to the bathroom, he could of gotten stuff stuck on him. If it is still going on by next week, you might want to take him back to the vet.

Three things:

Worms, like everyone said.

Trying to drain his/her anal glands (you'll notice a bad smell later on)

Or it just itches.

If you de-wormed him then it might not be that, but dont rule it out. If its the anal glands a vet or a few expert dog groomers can flush it for you. If it itches try some itch spray/cream, then you just have to deal with it if that fails.

Oh and dont try to flush the anal glands yourself, you can hurt the dog

Rebecca N has got the correct answer. It's quite common in dogs. Mine drags her *** every once in a while too.

I found some more information about it for you. Just follow the link below.

I guess he has impacted anal sacs. Try to squeeze his anal sacs located at 4 and 8 o'clock position around the periphery of the anus. Use tissue paper to cover your hand. Some foul smelling secretion will come out. Squeeze and wipe it clean and it will stop scooting.

Worms

It's either sick, or it's so inbred as to be a possible deformity.

I would worry about where you bought it from.

If you adopted it, go check out the place.

Some mutts are very hardy, while many pedigrees are bred to capacity and are problematic (like lots of vet bills, I mean).

Hmm...

He may still have worms, or more got into him. Check his poop to see if there are any worms and take him to a vet again. He may need medications.
