When is it best for solid foods? Are they active and playful at that stage

5 weeks old is way too young to be separated from the mother dog. This puppy needs to stay with the mom until at least 8 weeks.

If the mother dog is not alive now, how are the puppies being fed currently? If they are in a foster home, perhaps the foster parent can provide you information, although I imagine that a foster parent would keep the puppy until 8 weeks as well.

5 weeks is when they should just be starting on solid food. They are noisy and messy and not housebroken and a lot of work at that age. They will require 24/7 supervision and you'll have to take special precautions to make sure they stay warm enough. When they aren't sleeping, they'll want to be eating and they don't do much else besides make a lot of noise.

All in all, whoever has the puppy right now should be keeping it until 8 weeks or spending a lot of time mentoring you on how to properly raise such a young dog.

ok first they should be on solids already and the best food is called chicken soup because you want to feed a food that won't dry her skin out or just irritate it. bulldogs are known to have very bad skin if not taken care of right from the begining, if she was sold to you at 5 weeks then you can feed her solids now and add some replacement milk in her food to keep giving her the vits she needs if she was still nursing. dogs are suppose to nurse til they are 6 weeks then off mom at that age but if she was sold to you then just do that with her. i breed golden retrievers and i don't sell my dogs till they are 8 weeks because they still need mom for the socializing and getting used to others. they should be active and playful a this age and if the pup is not then go to the vet to have the pup looked at to find out why. pups may not be active for the first day but make sure that you get a guarantee on the pup and let the breeder know that you will take the dog to the vet, let them know that you want a 7 day guarantee on the dog that will be long enough to do what you need to do. good luck

It would be cruel to take this little pup in at such a young age. If you are not convinced, call around to a few of your local vets. I have a 3 year old dog that was removed from his mother much too young and he still manifests behaviors resulting from the early seperation. If you want your pup to be the best dog he can be then wait a bit. You'll be glad you did.
C'mon, you know the saying, 'good things come to those who wait...'.

OMG...5 weeks is waayyy to early for a dog to move to a home. I are not able to think he is totally weaned and that the breeder mean you can have him at the sort of young age. Manner means manner too younger..Bad factor. I'd soak so dog food in heat water. If he does not eat that, grind the meals up in a blender and blend it with water so it is easy to eat.His enamel are on the whole no longer capable to really chew significant chunks. He isn't robust most often due to the fact he's so younger and failed to get adequate pastime earlier than he came to you this will likely get better if he is given space to stroll round. Supply him lots of TLC and excellent luck with him. He really wishes you now that you're the one one there for him. He typically misses his mother and litter mates.

5 weeks is much too young for the pup to be seperated from its mother. You need to ask the breeder to wait until the pups is 2-3 months old!! They should be eating solid food by then. For now, they should be nursing their mom.

It is illegal to own a dog at this young of an age. Wait until its 8 weeks old. That way you won't have to bottle feed it at all. They need their mothers during these next few weeks and NO, they are not playful.

Your pup should be with its mom still untill it is at least 8 weeks old but i have had to get a puppy at 5 weeks old before and they will not need to be bottle fed all you need to do is soak down his good quality puppy food with warm water to where it is mush and feed him 3 to 4 times a day always keep fresh clean water down and also you need to take him to the vet when you get him and the vet will tell you when he needs to start on shots and worming,,, also you can start potty training at this age,, you will need to buy him a crate and crate train him by taking him out every time he eats and every hour and when you have to leave take him out then put him in his crate and then when you return take him out to go potty,, at bed time take him out to go potty and then when you get up out of bed take him out first thing, you will have to take him out in the middle of the night untill he is a little older, cause he wont be able to hold it that long over night... I hope this has helped and if you have any other questions please feel free to email me and i will try to help you out as much as I can at hunterdog_34@yahoo.com

Hi,
A five week old Puppy can survive with out the Mother and does not need to be bottle fed, but does need a good Quality Puppy Food soaked and made soft for his little nursing teeth. I suggest you soak his food in diluted canned Goats Milk, one part Goats milk to one part water. This will give him the added calcium for strong bones, but only until he is 8 weeks old, then slowly stop the goats milk by diluting it 1 part goats milk to 2 parts water then to 1 part goats milk to 3 parts water, then soak food in just water at the end of 10 weeks and soak it less and less until he is eating it dry. Have lots of fresh water for him at all times.

He is still very young and will do a lot of sleeping for a little while longer and will get more active as he gets older. Enjoy his quietness for now, it will all change before you know it and will long for his long naps.

Good Luck with your new Puppy.

I have had many a young pup thru the years, Now for Me, I would warm up some milk, you may have to push their nose in it gently but firmly, you will be surprised how they will look for it again. After a while you can start them on a solid food.
