We love the looks of the Westie (West Highland Terrier), but in the descriptions I read that they MUST be on leash or they may run away. I also read they are not good lap dogs. So I read the Bichon can be trusted off leash and is a great lap dog. I sure like the looks of the Westie better. We have an eitght year old Siberian Husky that is so calm and mild, but can't be trusted off leash. I don't want something like that for a second dog. Is it true Westies can't be trusted off leash? Will they sit on your lap?

She came back from a long walk 1 hour before this. On this walk, she peed a couple of times. So now I'm wondering, why would she pee indoors?

We have a 3.5 month old pug puppy, and ever since we got him at 7.5 weeks old, he follows me EVERYWHERE! I will get up to go to the restroom,he has to be in there with me or else he'll scream and whine at the door and piss off the neighbors (we live in an apartment). He follows me to the bedroom, kitchen, living room, computer room...he will either throw a fit if I don't pay attention to him, or he'll just lay at me feet and play by himself. When I lie down to take a nap, I wake up to him snoring and drooling in my face,lol...Why is he so attached to me?

We have a runt out of our litter of 7 puppies and she is 1/3 the size of the others. They are 6 weeks old. We want to keep her but we want to know if she is healthy or not. She is starting on softened food though. She eats healthy and does the same things the others do but barking. She doesnt whine alot either.

My dog, casper, is walking around with a stuff animal and whining and wimpering. I tried playing with him but he still does the same thing. I hugged him kissed him on his face and he's still crying. I already fed him. He's attached to all of our family but when my mom is how he follows her and she's on the couch and oddly he's not even with her right now. What's going on with my 10year old West Highland white terrier?

I have a 21 month old Lab/Chow mix. We adopted him just over a year ago. We have put him through training and he goes to daycare on a regular basis. But suddenly one day when my father in law came over to walk him, our dog Smokey tried to attack him. Then tonight he jumped our deck to basically attack the neighbor's dog. I am not sure what happened or what to do with Smokey. He shows no aggression towards me or my husband. In fact when he is around us, he is the best dog. I can't help but wonder if something happened when he was at daycare this week or not.

our dog is a 6 1/2 yr old English Springer and he has just in the past 2 weeks started to get more and more cranky and he has now started to get snappy at myself and our children.Tonight he tried to bite me and he has never been an angry dog??
The vet's office is closed tonight but will be open in the morning(and we will be taking spike) but i am asking these questions now as i would like to have some sort of an idea as to whether or not our dog has distemper and what should i expect.
also if spike has distemper should we get him put down or not ??
we have 4 children all under the age of 8 yrs old and we have 1 child in a wheelchair who if spike was to get snappy at would not be able to take care of herself.
right now we have spike in a room by himself so that he cannot snap at anyone else.
