First, have your vet check him out. Sudden onset of aggression can be caused by things like thyroid imbalance or pain.
Other than that, I agree that you should seek out a trainer experienced with reactivity. Chances are very strong that this did not happen as suddenly as you think -- there are usually signals that are hard to read if you haven't learned how to watch for them.
For what it's worth, I heard recently from experienced trainers that Chows and similar breeds have a tendency to be fairly stoic until the point at which they are overwhelmed. If your dog is moderate to heavy on the Chow, this could be a factor as well. I have not worked with Chows myself but I currently have a theory that this is one reason Chows get a bad rap for aggression -- that people push them beyond their comfort zone while believing that everything is fine.

I think your toughts about doggie daycare are right. During Katrina my daughter brought her full grown female pitt bull over. Our old shepherd is the alpha female. She was trying to take a toy from Lilly. They tangled and we had to pull them apart. After this my daughter's pitt bull broke her lease and bit a little poodle. That goodness my daughter grabbed her dog before she hurt the little poodle. The vet said the incident with our shepherd caused her to become very dog aggressive. She has not tried to bite a person yet but once she showed the dog aggression they did not allow the pitt bull to be in a situation with anyone outside the family that lived in the house.

If it truly is new habit, I advise taking him to the vet for an total blood panel. My guess might want to be that there is something actual happening. they could't without delay let us know they're in discomfort so from time to time they teach us through appearing out, even aggressively. it really is a huge pink flag if this isn't widespread habit. If the bloodwork comes decrease back effective, then i might want to communicate with a behaviorist. despite the indisputable fact that, i don't think of which will be needed. canines do not purely devoid of note replace their habit from tender to aggressive for no reason.

If he's not neutered, get him neutered. It could be that a dog is in heat near by, which can cause aggressive behavior.
Talk to the doggie day care. Make sure their are no dogs in heat there. A good day care will not allow a dog in heat to be there, because this can cause problems with aggression, breeding, etc.
Ask the day care if they have noticed any changes in his behavior. Ask if they changed the schedule/treats/employees, etc.

Seeing a behaviorist is really the smartest thing to do. Don't wait and hope that this is just going to go away - educate yourself about the warning signs and stop this bad behavior as soon as possible by getting the help of an expert. You'll have a better understanding about what to do, and how to prevent your dog's buttons from being pushed. Good luck!

I agree with you something must have happened in Daycare. The question is now what do you do about it? As your vet for a referral to a Dog Behavioral Specialist. He will evaluate the dog and work on the specific aggressive behaviors. You will also learn how to work with the dog so that he is less aggressive.
