Dogs - December 2006

I have a year and a half old golden retreiver that stays in the house. the problem is that he gets a real bad odor problem around the ears. i clean his ears weekly with ear cleaner. is there any other solution or chemical?

I have a 6 month old Chihuahua puppy who I usually bathe about once a month (he stays inside and uses a litter box, so he's relatively clean). In the past two weeks or so, I've noticed "dandruff" like flakes on his back. Is it possible for dogs to get dandruff, and if so... is there a head-and-shoulders type solution for dogs?

yuck, eewww, I don't know what happen but first it was a little spot on his tail and he always bitting at it then he started losing hair in that spot, now he rubs on the fence, on the bushes and anything else till it bleeds and eeewww, I don't even know what it is!!! what could it be or what should I do????

I want to make my dogs day tommorow. Grooming, playing, activities ETC. He is a german shepherd. What fun stuff can i do with him. I will be keeping him company all day tommorow in the backyard... We had to let him go to a new home due to work commitments,I really miss him but i know he's gone to a lovely new place.
How long will it take till i stop missing him so much?

When ever I leave my puppy chews the hell out of my house.Gets in the garbage and pees on anthing mine. He only does this when I leave.He does not have to be alone in the house to do this. It really is only when I leave .How can I break him of this?

the hightest up pad on the leg has sliced almost off about a quater of it, its bleeding but not that much, ive seen worse on my stupid dog! I'm not too worried and have bandaged it up until morning and she seems fine. has anyone had any experience of this will it need to be stitched back on urgently or does she not need it. would it be ok for her to loose a small part of it. i'm a bit stuck as to the importance on the top pad, i thought they were just like thick skin. some advice please.

I'm writing a paper for my criminal justice class on police dogs. It's supposed to be 3 pages long and I can only find enough information to get out 2.25 pages.

The main thing I'm hoping to find is maybe a website that has amazing stories about how a police dog found a missing person, or something like that. I already wrote quite a but about finding drugs.

When you crate train your dog, does that become their permanent sleeping place at night? I've heard you can remove the door once they're potty trained, but doesn't that defeat the whole point of having them in the crate? And if not, wouldn't a dog bed be fine, since they could wander out of their crate anyways? I'm asking this because my dog is pretty well potty trained, she defenetly lets you know when she needs to go outside. Her normal nightly routine is as follows: falls asleep between 8-9pm, usually wakes up around 5:30am, I take her out then I go back to sleep on the couch with her until around 7am. I know I have created a bad habit for her by doing this, but she is so sweet & cuddly in the morning and I can either go back to sleep for a little while or I can listen to her cry. We are going to put the crate in our room tonight and I'll put her back in it after she goes outside, hopefully that'll work. I've gotten a bit off track, but I think I got the basic question asked...

I need to find out what breed of puppy that is under $200. Pleez help. I live in southern ca. I want a puppy that is good wih people.
Apuppy that can give birth easily (no see sections or wut ever they are called!? and lastly I prefer a puppy that is a miniature or a small breed/ toy puppy. Any suggestions on a breed that is small and doesn't cost much? thanks.

I have an 8 month old Great Dane that has recently started peeing in the house! He was perfectly potty trained--and would always let us know when he needs to go outside. In the past week or so, he has started urinating in the house and seems to need to pee a lot more--feels like once every 30minutes to 1 hr. I'm not sure what could be causing this dramatic change. I have not changed his routine, diet, exercise. I am starting to monitor his water intake, but have not noticed much change. Could a urinary tract infection cause this? What other symptoms might he have if it is indeed UTI? What else could be causing this?
