I think your question refers to dachshunds. I‘ve known several dachshunds that were perfect to and with children, but it always depends on the individual character.
And don’t underestimate your behavior to an animal. I am sure that animals often copy the people they have to cope with.
You state that you are looking for an animal that doesn’t need to be walked with on a regular basis. Are you really willing to live up to the needs of your companion, or will it (he / she) have to adapt to your whims? Having an animals can be very demanding and sometimes asks for a lot of commitment and tolerance.

I have had my mini daschund for six years, well until yesterday. They do have health problems which is why I lost mine. She wasn't sick her whole life, her illness just happened over night and I did loose her. I have never had any problems with her. She was my best friend, very loyal and followed me everywhere. I also have a jack Russel, which they played very well together. She never had any problems with kids and loved everyone that she came into contact with. As far as I'm concerned getting a mini daschund would be the best thing for anyone to do. They may be small but there heart is bigger than a bull mastiff. She taught me more things than anyone else in this world.

Miniature Dachshund's are OK as long as they are properly trained and socialized properly when young. They can be aggressive towards young children and can get nervous very easily.
They can get along with other dogs and other household pets as long as they are socialized and trained.
They need a walk for about 20 minutes a few times a week so they don't get over-weight.
They are not a good breed if you have small, young or inconsiderate children. They need to be with children that are older and are more considerate. They can be very scared as they are so little and short, they would find a lot of things to be a threat towards them.
Only buy the Dachshund from a professional breeder.

This breed is a little snippy. Like most small dogs they make up for size with attitude. They do tend to bite and if They get over-weight they have a lot of back problems. I would not recommend this breed for small children.

Yes, be cautious around kids. Daschunds can nip at kids. And they do have lots of health problems as they get older (the dogs I mean, not the kids).

they are okay for some people...i would say no for small children...i work at a hospital and the only dogs i have been bit by are dachsund or dachsund mixes...they can be snippy if not trained well....make sure you socialize him well...Shih tzus are great. i had one when i was little and he was gret with everyone...again its all in the training. Maltese, beagles, corgi's(again need really good training or they will "herd" your children), toy poodles, pugs(probably the best)....or the new puggle...they are a beagle and pug mix and they are very cute...those are the ones i would recommend...goodluck!
