I have an 8 month old Great Dane that has recently started peeing in the house! He was perfectly potty trained--and would always let us know when he needs to go outside. In the past week or so, he has started urinating in the house and seems to need to pee a lot more--feels like once every 30minutes to 1 hr. I'm not sure what could be causing this dramatic change. I have not changed his routine, diet, exercise. I am starting to monitor his water intake, but have not noticed much change. Could a urinary tract infection cause this? What other symptoms might he have if it is indeed UTI? What else could be causing this?

It could be a UTI...But if it was a UTI, he'd be trying frequently and nothing would come out...

Let me ask you this -
Is he fixed? If not, he's probably starting the habit of marking his territory. If he's not, please get him fixed - It will also stop him from marking his territory.

While some dogs take a few weeks to be fully potty train, other dogs might take longer. Sometimes when their already potty train and all of a sudden they would just make a mess months later. Being that your dog is only 8 months, I would say keep training. It happen to my dog before and I read it from some where, that it's like teenager stage but not sure if thats the case. If anything go see the vet or dog trainer for professional help! Wish you luck!

It definitely has something to do with his kidney, bladder, urinary system. Take him to the vet tomorrow. Probably the worst case scenario is that he may have a bladder or kidney infection and the vet will give him an antibiotic of some kind, maybe Cipro. Poor thing can't help it and knows he isn't doing right but can't tell you about it. It is good that you are monitoring him and understanding that he isn't just messing up and that there is a problem. I had a Great Dane - Abby was her name and she was bigger than me but so loveable.

I have a male Boston terrier with the SAME problem. I haven't been able to find a solution either. I've been told that if you get them "fixed" before they are a year old or before this behavior starts you're in the clear. Well...I didn't get him fixed. But do actually have some cleaning advice. If you clean the spot up extremely well, then spray it down with Windex (the kind with ammonia) they will not do it in the same spot again. I guess the pee contains ammonia also...so they think another animal has marked its territory there. Sorry I couldn't help with the problem. Good Luck!!!

It could be the weather...my dog is the same way...as the weather gets colder, going outside is too cold.

Put some puppy pads around the house where he usually pees, show him where it is, treat him when he goes on the pad, and when the weather changes, see what happens from there.

To get the pee spots up from the carpet, invest in Natures Miracle...it's a LIFESAVER!!!

My dog has started doing that since it's been turning colder and he won't go outside. I have also found out that he will do that if he thinks he's not getting enough attention. I recently went into the hospital and he heard me talking about leaving him and peed in the house. He wants my attention even if it's negative and he knows he will get in trouble

he is simply marking his territory literally.. basically, you can make him potty outside all you want, but he will still pee in the house to say for any other animals that may live or visit there "THIS IS MY HOUSE"..

my dog does the same damn thing.. its utterly aggravating

Call your Vet, he may be able to tell you without even seeing the pup. Hope he gets better.
