I am moving in with my sister while my husband is in Iraq. Her cat has been recently diagnosed with feline lukemia and I was wondering if my dog could get sick from her cat.

No, luckily your dog can't get feline leukemia. It is not a zoonotic disease--meaning it only attacks one species. Canines and humans are immune to it. Your question is a good one; don't feel bad that some people are responding sarcastically. Just because a disease is not zoonotic doesn't mean it will always be so. In Africa, canine distemper recently made the jump from wild dogs to lions. The lions have no defences against a canine disease and it is ravaging their population.

Feline Leukemia is exactly that FELINE not CANINE. Dogs can't get it. With the exception of Lepto & Rabies dogs and cats don't share illnesses. Most illnesses are species specific.

No -- the word "feline" means cat. Feline leukemia is very contagious among cats because it's spread by a virus.

No. Dogs are canine not feline. Cancer is not an infectious transmittable disease anyway so he'll be OK. Sorry about the cat though.
