The poor thing needs socializing. It is just like a child, love it, hold it, show it that there are people in the world that are not going to beat it. Let it sleep with you for awhile and always leave a piece of your clothing with the dog so it will become accustom to your scent. Try to keep loud noises and yelling down around the dog until it gets used to your household. But most of all spend as much time with the dog as possible. I feel for the poor thing and hope everything works out for you. God bless you for rescuing the dog and treat it as a member of your family because now it is.

First, make sure that it is relatively quiet around the house and make it as comfortable as possible. I would not recommend holding him if he is scared of you, you never know how he might react to that. He might try to hurt you because he doesn't know that you won't hurt him. Try sitting down on the ground 4-6 feet away from him with a lot of really good treats. Hold a handful out to him and speak to him softly and slowly. The goal is to get him to come to you instead of you invading his space. If he won't come to you, slowly lean foward and put some on the ground in front of him. If he gets that put some more on the gound between you, and keep doing this, slowly getting closer to you. If he takes it from your hand, quietly reward him-very gently-you don't want to scare him off now that he is there. Do not touch him yet. Eventually once he is very comfortable with eating from your hand, while you are feeding him treats with one hand, touch his shoulder gently with your other hand. Make sure that he sees your other hand and move slowly, other wise you might startle him. If he lets you touch him, reward him with gentle praise and more treats. Keep in mind that your hand is one thing that he probably associates with pain, so this might take a while. You need to be alpha, which means accepting the responsibility of making sure that he does not get hurt, that there's nothing really scarry etc. If something is making him uncomfortable, remove it and then reintroduce it VERY gradually. I hope this goes well for you and your dog! Good Luck!

Hmmm, first, keep the dog on a leash for a few weeks, this way he has to be with you all the time. Cuddle with him and show hhim that he doesn't have to be afraid of you, give him lots of treats, praise and play time, as well as showing him you are the alpha, he will feel a bit more securer knowing that he is not the leader of the pack. I hope some of this helps

What made you think you could take care of this dog ? It obviously needs alot of time, love and attention. Bringing it into a home with alot of strange people is probably the worst thing you could do. It would have to learn to trust you first and slowly be introduced to others. You should find someone more equipped to care for the dog.
