I recently put up an accordian door to keep my one year old cat from escaping out the back door when i open it to come in or out of the house. clearly he is mad at me for doing it and scratches it constantly. is there any sort of spray that they don't like the smell of or anything that would keep him from scratching and even sometimes getting it open?

named "Sofia Loren", Sofia is not adjusting well to the new kitten. She hisses and growls at him, why is she so mad? and how long do you think it will take them to become friends, i am scared she will hurt him but thankfully she is de clawed. thanks for your answers
p.s at first when we got the kitty on Friday 8-24 Sofia was pretty much howling with anger and running the opposite direction while growling loudly, now she is showing interest but only quietly growling and chasing him around and batting at him but then running away from him i hope this means she is not as upset anymore.
p.s my 6 yr old named the kitten "Sniffie Lee"

Brought home 1-2yr old female from shelter yesterday (same one of the amputated tail question!). Immediately she wants to follow me everywhere, and cried when i didn't let her in the bedroom. When i got up this morning she wouldn't detach herself from my feet for about 15mins. She is v v inquisitive, and used my clothes horse (with clothes on it) as a climbing frame. None of this hiding away for hours for my new cat!! If i stroke her she often turns round and tries to bite (though not v hard), and likes to raise her paw to me, claws out and bat me, though clearly wants to be right beside me. Her body is quite long, but i didn't think overly so, and she has a delicate face. Is she part siamese? Any advice about the crying outside the bedroom, would she be calmer if i let her in (tho not keen on hairy bed), or how best to keep her chilled out? Thanks

My new kitty is a stray, the sweetest male cat in the world, however, he does not use the litterbox! I'm guessing he's so used to being outside that he does not know how to use it.. so he just poos on the carpet or floor whenever he has to go. My mom told me it's almost impossible to teach a cat how to use a litterbox since they're stubborn and usually learn this on their own.. but is there a way to teach him? What do you reccommend? Thanks! :)

So he is urinating more. This has been happening for over a week now. I thought about Diabetis but he is not losing weight. He is in fact overweight (a question that I asked about last week). So if it is not diabetis then what else can it be?

White cats are susceptible to cancer of the ear because the fur on the ears is very sparse and sunlight penetrates easily.
My cat, Puss, has already had one ear off about ten years ago, and I believe he may have to have the other removed.
Has anyone else had this problem? He is about 12 and the vet is worried about whether his heart will withstand another operation. We sure do not want to lose him.
I`ve lost a mother, father, two brothers and a son and never shed one tear, but I`m sure I`ll cry my eyes out if anything happens to Puss!

I love cats I just wish I could have more, but living in an apartment there isn't much territory for more than two full grown cats. Kittens are the perfect size to have more than two they just don't stay so small. I've never heard of such a breed but I'm optimistic on hearing about new species.

I have a litter of outdoor kittens that are all healthy except the runt which has the gooey, crusty eyes. Will boric acid take care of this problem or do I need to take it to the vet to get eye drops or something? Also I was thinking about bringing it in my house and nursing it back to health because it is also very underweight but will this infect my house cats?

I have a friend who told me that white vinegar helps to get the smell out but have tried that several times and it hasn't worked, it just makes it smell worse. If anyone knows of something else to help get the stink out I'm open to suggestions, other than getting rid of the cats that's not happening.

When I look at my cat I can see what I figure are his lungs moving a great deal more than usual and more than our other cats. If I pick him up he puts his tongue out and gasp for air.

He usually meows a good deal and purrs all the time, but recently no purrs and very few but also very weak meows. He has been mainly staying in a few spots and not that active. Also, he does not want to eat or drink much.

Although, last night we got him to eat and drink a little and he moved around. Today he also was moving around the house some and seemed to be somewhat better, but now he seems to be worse again.

I was planning on taking him to the vet hopefully soon, but was wondering what it could be and if there is anything I can do?

We just adopted a kitten from a breeder. I brought the contract to the vet. Our breeder had mentioned that she will void the contract if we get the FIP vaccine. She explained to me the reasons and I researched it. It seemed as it is a confusing subject. However, I think the vet does not agree with the breeder (she is the professional) and she would advice to get all the vaccines.

The kitten was expensive. Not just that, he is part of the family and we are keeping him, we bond already

Is not getting the FIP bad or good?

While I appreciate the answers, allow me to clarify:
1. When I brought Hallie in to the house, I kept her in a cage initially, for about a month, until they got used to each other. I'm assuming that his aggression towards her is because she came in sick, and he has had to undergo some treatment because of it.
2. My friends are not bringing their cats into my home. I NEVER allow my friends to bring their cats over. I have only notice him attack those friends who OWN cats.
3. I can't do much by way of rearranging and allowing special rooms for him. I live in a one bedroom apartment. I have a small kitchen, living/dining room, bathroom, bedroom. That's it!
I will dry the herbal stuff, please elaborate on the sights for re-introducing Hallie into the home. I allow for plenty of cuddle time with Tyson, but Hallie is a sweet little mush ball who just wants to be loved -- even by Tyson, who repeatedly attacks her.
Any other suggestions?

My cat is an outdoor cat and my neighbours have this really nasty cat that has given him a scratch on his nose. Can I clean it with hydrogen peroxide like when I get a cut or will it hurt him too much? I want to help him make it feel better or heal faster, is there anything I can or should do?

Okay, today I was walking home and I heard a cat meow at me. My younger brother and his friends saw it, and we all gather around it. One of the children gently picked up the cat were we brought it to my house and gave it some tuna and milk. It seemed to very hungry, and it was very small. We played with it for a bit, and had some fun. My brother got ahead of himself, and named it Jake. The thing is…I know whom this cat belongs to. It is my friends neighbors, but they miss treat it! It is always outside, and when the boys see it they will yank it tail and scream bad kitty toward it. The children were taken away by the DHS, but broken back, so I am pretty sure that they cannot really care for a cat, but then again that cat might be the only thing that they have. So what should I do?

I have had a kitty, Tyson, for 3 years. He used to be a sweet kitty, never really very loving or mushy, but never like he is now. I took in a stray cat in November, and ever since, he has been down right nasty! He attacks the other cat, chasing her around my one bedroom apartment and biting her, and, even worse, when any of my friends who own cats come into my home, he attacks them, trying to scratch them and hissing. I have heard rumors that he is being territorial, and showing territorial aggression in that when he smells cat on someone else, he thinks that they are going to bring a new cat into the house. I also read somewhere that there is medication that I can give him, but I don't even take medication, I don't want to give it to my cat! Any suggestions???

They jump in before I even have a chance to put the lid back on. They're just 4 months old so I don't think they marking or are they? I have 3 grown cats who don't pay me any mind when I clean it. I'm having the babies fixed as soon they are ready (the vet recommends 6 months). Is it just a game or what?

I've recently gotten a cat. He's from my grandmother and he's about a year old and even though I've never cared much for cats, I really like this one.

The thing is, his poop reeks!! He goes in his litter box, which is great, but in a matter of seconds the whole house stinks, even though I get rid of his poop out of the house as soon as he finishes. Do all cats smell this bad? Is it something he's eating? Are there any ways to help out with this smell besides febreeze and arm & hammer? Yuck!!
