I am taking my dog and cat in next week to get them neutered and spayed . Are they going to gain weight after this?

the only time i've seen this happen in a dog is because he wasn't so 'highly strung' afterwards, so he didn't play by himself as much, he used to toss his toys around and chase them. he stopped doing this and only played when played with, so he wasn't as active as he used to be. other than that i haven't heard of neutering/spaying causing a weight increase.

Yes they will both gain a lot of weight. Having their reproductive organs removd will slow down their metabolism very much. I have seen several animals neutered/spayed and they were all very fat even if fed the same as before the operation.
I would never spay/neuter my pets. I did this mistake in the past and regret it profoundly. As long as you are a responsible owner and dont let your pets reproduce more than 2 times in their lives and as long as you take care that the puppies/kittens find good homes, there is no reason to spay/neuter your animals.

Maybe a little-you can help by playing actively with them and taking the dog for long walks. The benefits outweigh the weight gain a hundredfold.

the only way they will gain weight is if you overfeed them.
