Brought home 1-2yr old female from shelter yesterday (same one of the amputated tail question!). Immediately she wants to follow me everywhere, and cried when i didn't let her in the bedroom. When i got up this morning she wouldn't detach herself from my feet for about 15mins. She is v v inquisitive, and used my clothes horse (with clothes on it) as a climbing frame. None of this hiding away for hours for my new cat!! If i stroke her she often turns round and tries to bite (though not v hard), and likes to raise her paw to me, claws out and bat me, though clearly wants to be right beside me. Her body is quite long, but i didn't think overly so, and she has a delicate face. Is she part siamese? Any advice about the crying outside the bedroom, would she be calmer if i let her in (tho not keen on hairy bed), or how best to keep her chilled out? Thanks

sounds like your cat might have a mild case of separation anxiety, and this can be a pain to live with! (I know from experience with my 11 month old domestic short hair, he's a severe case of SA so I'm constantly administering medications and calling to check in with the cat sitter, he's a pain but it's not his fault and he's worth every minute of extra attention he gets)...here's an article about separation anxiety in cats including causes, signs, and possible treatment:

what you are describing is not a specific breed trait (except for the mood swings: wanting to be pet then turning around to bite you is common of Siamese cats, as well as any cat that has been raised to rough house play)
Siamese cats do tend to have long yet small slender bodies with angular delicate faces HOWEVER these can be the traits of many other breeds as well, I could not tell you if your cat was part Siamese unless I saw a picture of her...I did a google image search on Siamese cats (although I already know what they look like, my mom has a pure-breed), if you're not sure then your guess is as good as any: just compare the photos at the link below to what your cat looks like and see if there are many similarities:

good luck! congrats on the new four-legged family member!

Part Siamese cats look just like any DSH, my eighteen and a half year old is quarter Siamese and the most Siamese thing about her is her Voice. Siamese are very vocal, they love to talk, they also wail like tomcats (or banshees). Some Siamese have claws which don't fully retract, so you could check those.
There is a pheromone spray called Feliway which can make your cat feel more at home. If you really don't want her on your bed, set up a bed for her in the room where you want her to stay. It is best up off the floor and covered, a box with a hole cut in one side and a soft blanket of the bottom is good. Mine sleeps in a cat cubby on one of the shelves in the laundry and is very happy.
Good luck with your new family member

She loves you for bringing her home! She's fine with the pawing, meowing when you are in another room with the door closed. She doesn't want to be separated from you and I don't blame her. Shelter life for a cat is horrifying for them. Having to put up with barking dogs, being moved every day from a dirty cage to a clean one. Having people come along and stare at you and poke at you. It's a rough life for all cats. Be happy and glad too that she has settled in so fast in your house, that's great! Get her a nice tall scratching post, so she won't keep scratching on your clothes horse. Spray it with catnip spray and put a few treats at the top of it. Guide her up the post so she sees and smells the treats. This will teach her what the post is for. I used this method when I had six cats in the house, all of them had their claws too.

If you could get a picture of this kitty so that people could look at it and give their opinion. That would be good too. It's kind of hard to tell without looking at her. I had a Siamese mix cat a long time ago. But, you could tell he was part Siamese as his eyes were blue and he had some other traits of a Siamese.

I hope this helps and I hope you continue to enjoy your new kitty. She sounds like a sweet heart!

Most first generation Siamese/mixes are black or black and white. They often have the Siamese coat too--a thick 'greasy' feeling one.

OR she could just be naturally vocal, a lot of cats are.

Hairy beds aren't much of a problem, use those gloves with the plastic nubs on to wipe the bed down with occasionally (even spritz a little water on the glove for added help). A slightly damp washcloth works good too. But you'll have to get used to a cat curled up against your head, most likely. We've got five and they all have access to the bedroom, but usually only three sleep up there with us for any length of time. Usually it's only for the first few hours, then they go down and sleep over on the couch or in some other area.

play toys for cats might occupy her mind for a bit
she was obviously starved for attention before you got her
, i think that once she is comfortable in her new home she won't need the security of you as much.
.if she has Siamese in her she should have blue eyes.
the raising her paw at you is just play .
put an old sheet over your bed its easy to wash

SHE IS PROBABLY JUST SETTLING IN.... AND YOU MAKE HER COMFORTABLE SO SHE WANTS TO BE WITH YOU.... JUST IGNORE HER WHEN SHE IS CRYING AND HOPEFULLY SHE WILL SOON SETTLE!
