I recently put up an accordian door to keep my one year old cat from escaping out the back door when i open it to come in or out of the house. clearly he is mad at me for doing it and scratches it constantly. is there any sort of spray that they don't like the smell of or anything that would keep him from scratching and even sometimes getting it open?

I have 4 cats and searched for something that would keep them away and out of my Christmas tree. I tried all the sparays and all they did was leave a weird odor in the air and a bitter taste in my mouth. I did find an item while searching the internet call "Scat Cat". It is a motion detection spray system. The spray is non toxic and works like a charm. You setup the can with the motion detector and turn it on and any time you or the cat gets near it, the system will beep and then spray a burst of air which will keep the cats away. I have 3 of them since I have such a large tree and the cats DO NOT like it. I found the system off of amazon but you can find it just by searching the internet. I have included the link to Amazon and Petsmart. Hope this helps.

There are repellents that are sold in pet stores. It usually comes in an aerosol spray can. This type of repellent has a pungent odor, but is harmless to animals. It has to be sprayed every 24 hours or it will lose it's scent and won't work. I used to use it when I had 6 cats in my house. It's great for telling kitty, don't go there. Hope this helped!

You might try Bitter Apple (which is recommended for keeping cats from scratching some places), or maybe something with a citrus smell. I've never met a cat that likes the smell of orange peel.

Good luck!

bitter apple works for biting.. so if they are tearing up carpets and biting the door and things like that.. bitter apple is the way to go..

but there are certain sprays that help get rid of the scent the kittens leave.. try "natures miracle 'just for cats'".. its awesome.. or goto any pet store and they have "cat repellents" which is either in a spray form or in a dust form..
