My cat is an outdoor cat and my neighbours have this really nasty cat that has given him a scratch on his nose. Can I clean it with hydrogen peroxide like when I get a cut or will it hurt him too much? I want to help him make it feel better or heal faster, is there anything I can or should do?

I agree with kitty143cat. Definitely clean the scratch. I'd call a vet (any vets office should be able to give you an answer on what to use over the phone) Then put on Neosporin or a trible antibiotic salve. If she licks it, it shouldn't hurt her. I used it on a hamster who had an awful wound and it healed up quite nicely and it didn't get sick from it.

I've tried hydrogen peroxide on a nasty cut on my cat's ear and he didn't complain at all as long as I applied it gently. I figure that peroxide is more gentle than alcohol. But since it is his nose, I'd avoid anything like that; likely he will lick at it or the smell will bother him. Use soap and water and let him lick it on his own. If you want to make him feel better, pet him and hug him and tell him that the other cat is merely jealous of his good looks.

I've never tried hydrogen peroxide. How about soap and water?
Definitely clean it though. As I'm sure you've experienced cat scratches can get real nasty if not cleaned immediately.

BTW please consider bringing your pet indoors. The flea situation is OUT OF CONTROL this year.

Let it heal as is, I think peroxide on the nose would hurt too much.

If you can, do a small dab of vasoline on the scratch, but don't block his nasal passages. Then give him some petting, he'll be ok.

Hi Bo...the best treatment for scratches is to use antibacterial soap and water. Hydrogen peroxide causes necrosis (death of live skin tissue) so it's best to avoid.

I wouldn't use hydrogen peroxide it hurt the cat, try something like neosporin.
