They jump in before I even have a chance to put the lid back on. They're just 4 months old so I don't think they marking or are they? I have 3 grown cats who don't pay me any mind when I clean it. I'm having the babies fixed as soon they are ready (the vet recommends 6 months). Is it just a game or what?

they are so relieved that it's clean 'cause they were holding it.
just kidding. I have grown cats that show their appreciation when I clean the litter box by going straight in it. Perhaps just seeing you clean the litter makes them feel like they have to go and suprise suprise, they do.

Haha, I had a cat who did this. I think it's cause they're clean freaks, and they like the box clean. I swear this cat would save it up until the box was clean, and somehow always knew when it was being cleaned no matter where she was in the house.
PS, as for the advice about cleaning it every two days -- what! Clean it once a day, not every two days! How stinky! Get scoop litter, it takes a second to scoop it every day.

There must be something that they like about it..like the scent or feel of it!? I have a 5 year old cat who does the same thing! Right after I get done cleaning his litter box he will go over and lay & sleep in it! I'm just glad he only does it when its clean! :)

they love clean litter, and want to be the first to use it. when they use it, it marks it as thiers. i brought home a kitten at the age of 6 weeks. even though he had to share it with my other cat, he thought it was his. he loved clean litter soo much he would even sleep in it to make sure my other cat wouldnt use it before he did.

My cat always sits and watches me clean his box and jumps right in to do his duty in a clean box. I've even waited to later morning to clean it and he holds out for a clean box. Silly creatures!

HAHAHA, yes, they're marking it, they all want to be FIRST to use the clean box and try to claim it as theirs! Make sure you have at least one box for every two cats though, so it doesn't get too dirty for them to want to use. Have fun with the funny stuff!

One of mine does that, too! it could be a few things. seeking attention, wanting to stink it up first with their smell(marking?), fresh litter is appealing...i expect this now, and don't tie off the garbage bag til i make sure she is done and i've scooped up the new mess!
