I have read a lot of people on here talking about "fleas coming in on your clothes" and giving your cat fleas. If this was such a problem wouldn't everyone get fleas? Wouldn't there be fleas in the stores and work places?

My cats are outside cats but I let them inside to be fed because I can't leave the bowl outside or neighbor cats will eat it all. (I do leave the water bowl outside) But it seems like they meow to be fed like 3-4 times a day! I thought they were supposed to be fed just once a day, and my husband says that you're also supposed to let them fast one day for the benefit of their digestion. What's the rule about this?

I'm going on vaction and we're going to my uncle's cabin near some wooded area. I'm afraid to bring my one year old cat up there. Should I ask a friend to watch him or should I put my fear aside and let him explore

He's about to turn six for the past three years he has had constant urinary tract problems. He suffers from crystals in his urine for this he takes cystaid capsules every day and has a special dry vet diet. Recently he has produced blood in his wee samples leading to x-rays and a wee sample being taken straight from the bladder to locate this blood and rule out tumours. There was no concluding answers leaving him with metacam to have every day to stop the irration to his bladder as well as everything else. The next stop is a bladder sample being taken to see if the blood is the lining of the bladder breaking up or the crystals breaking it up. Nightmare! Does any body know of a cat with this or what the out come might be or is your cat just the same?

My kitten has just reached the age of 4 weeks, and I've heard that you can begin weaning them at this age. He's being bottle fed kitten milk replacement. I wasn't exactly sure how to go about weaning him, and I was wondering if maybe I should just wait until he's closer to 6 weeks of age?

I am not a huge cat lover, our neighbors keep outdoor cats becuase there is not a ordience for cats in the city that I live in. Right now they have 12 cats outdoor cats, that they do nothing more than feed and water, the cats are missing huge patches of fur all over their bodies, are not fixed, not shots and just roam everywhere destroying personal property, they clawed my patio cushions to shreds, throw up hairballs on my cars and drug dead birds on my cars and kids play equipment...it is gross. I have throw water (or whatever liquid is close by at them) tried trapping them (the neighbors spring the traps) I am getting so tired of it I am about to put antifreeze out or shoot them with a bb gun...I just really hate the thought of doing any of that but at the same time my husband and I work very hard for what we have and will not keep watching it get destroyed. We have called the cops several times and talked to the neighbors nothing has helped..how can I keep these pests away???

we took our neighbours cat from a few houses away, because it had flea's, flea rash, it was thin, covered in scabs, starving etc. we took it to my aunt cause she used to be part of the cats protection league so they should be able to take it in to look after it.

so far it's been flea'ed etc so it doesn't have flea's anymore and it's coat is already looking healthier.

the question is, were we right to rescue this cat?

How do you deal with the litter problem?

Ive got a small balcony I put the litter box in because Ive got no space for it inside, but the cats usually have to sleep in the balcony at night because of this. Any ideas on how to keep them inside and with less smell from litter box ? Much appreciated.

My mum and I are worried about our cat. He is five years old and he has been very healthy since he was a kitten and he had all the necessary jabs when we first got him, but for the last ten days, he hasn't been himself and he has two mouth ulcers and a lot of saliva around his mouth. He is just staying in a corner and isn't playing with his sister like he usually does. He still has an appetite though and is eating well when we mash his food up. He went to the vets last week and again earlier this week and she put him on antibiotics saying that he's got a virus which will clear up in its own time. We are very concerned that he might have something more serious though. Does this sound very worrying? What could it be and is ten days a long time for a cat to still be unwell? Should we get some blood tests done? Thanks for any advice.

Is this common???? He's been neutered for almost two years. He was about 3 when we had him fixed (he was a stray at my grandmothers business) . I have an intact female that he always trys to "breed" when she is in season.... is this normal or should I be worried that the vet screwed up? We plan on having the female fixed but she is special needs and the surgery will be somewhat costly so we are putting away for it. Meanwhile he is making me crazy! lol

Here's the situation, my 3 1/2 week old kitten fell to the floor from sitting on my lap. I say it was a foot or so worth of falling from my lap to the hardwood floor. After she fell, she was moving her head as if she were gagging and moving on her side as if she was having a seizure of some sort. That lasted for 2 minutes. After that, she had a very blank stare and barely meowed, she just mewed. I am worried, as I have never had this happen to me before. She is sleeping now....do I still need to wake her up for her normal feeding, or let her sleep. Please help! I am taking her to the vet on Friday morning.

I have been told that he is a flame point or fire point Siamese, but he looks like a red rag doll. If you are very knowledgeable in cats and cat breeds/genetics, please help me!

I am not going to do a DNA testing, I am not THAT curious.

Please e-mail me for pictures, my photo bucket isn't working for some reason. baby_7991@yahoo.com

is it a bad idea to bring a kitten into a house with pet mice?

2007-07-18 16:53:33 · 14 answers · asked by k_snot 2

I've tried holding him down under a blanket, having someone else hold him firmly, have someone else trim his nails while I hold him, tried grabbing him while hes sleepy or while hes awake and frisky, and nothing works. He claws and bites and thrashes his way away.

He goes for weeks and weeks before we can get them done again, and his nails are getting so long now that he doesn't seem to be able to control them like he should! I just don't know what to do, nothing seems to work. Short of taking him to the vet each time and having them give him a tranquilizer to trim them, I don't see how we can do them without serious scratching or biting being done to us. His back claws are even worse than the front, so just removing them won't work since those are left in. Any suggestions??

July 2 , 2007 I found my kitten Cookie at my work..Of course she acted like a wild beast and we(co-workers and I) couldn't touch her for the life of us....I brought her home that day (got her in a box) and about 30 mins after bringing her home we were able to hold her..I keep her in my bedroom (my house has a few hiding places for small kittens and i wouldnt be able to get her out)...

Its now July 18..She is still a little skiddish but she sleeps with me and my bf and plays with us especially at night..(i know they are nocternal creatures) MY question (finally)....She runs around in these burst of energy and scoots around my room as much as she can...Flips around and does all kinds of funny lil tricks...
Is this from not having enough space or is she just showing off????? Should i let her explore a lil more around the house? Im still afraid im going to lose her in the house and not be able to get her out..Ive already lost her in my bedroom fireplace...and that was horrible! I fixed :)
