Heya, I've always been fond of cats and now that I'm on my own I'm looking into adopting one. I was wondering if its better to adopt a kitten or one thats more mature, and does anyone have an idea how hard to toilet train a cat?

I live in an apartment across the hallway from my sister's apartment. My Nephew and Neace come over to play. My Neace is a really good girl. However my Nephew likes to hurt my kitten and make her cry. His parents said that if he can't be over at my apartment then his sister can't come over either because it's not fair that she can come over and he can't. I think that's bull because he should be punished not her. Last night my Neace told me infront of her mom that my Nephew made my kitten cry five times. Her mother scorned her for "tattle telling" and blamed her for the cat getting her by saying that if she didn't come over then he wouldn't come over and the cat wouldn't get hurt. Anyways, why do little boys do this? What can I do about it? His parents won't take him to therapy even though he's been kicked out of pre-school for being violent.

A stray kitten showed up at my door, she has been outside all of her life. I plan on adopting her as a housecat. She is still somewhat fearful of people, I can gently pet her for a minute then she gets a little skiddish- it's just taking some time to build up some trust.
I haven't taken her to the vet yet, but soon as I get some cash I am going to get her checked for worms, get rabies shots, etc, but in the mean time, I noticed some small bugs on her fur next to her skins, they don't look like the typical fleas, these little bugs are tiny, shaped like a tick or a flea, but are like a pale tan color. I am not sure if they are lice or some type of mite. There are tiny white dots on the end of her fur that she sheds, almost like these would be eggs or nits or something. I've seen fleas before but these don't look like that, but I've never seen lice or mites before and wondering what these "bugs" are and what can be done over the counter until I can take her to the vet.

I have two little girls that I babysit and my cat is always hissing at them. They call her Miss Hissy Pants. I keep telling them to leave her alone, they may end up getting swatted if they bug her. I am not going to lock her up while they are here, it is her house too, besides I have 3 other cats. She doesn't like little people!! She is not used to kids, they are the only kids that come here. She is great as long as they are not around!

I have had this little female stray cat hanging around my yard and yesterday i was feeding her and she actually took food from my hand! So that would be a sign of trust. I have not pet her yet but how do you know if a stray trusts you enough to let you pet it?

My cat Target is 15, and she has always been a very tidy clean cat. but over the last year or so, she has decided my bathmats make a very good second litter box..ugh!
Why is she doing this? There has been no upset in her life like a new pet or anything. I have even replaced the bath mats in BOTH bathrooms, and within about 24 hours, she had 'christened' BOTH of them!
Is there anything I can do to stop her?

See my cat started acting funny, and we took him to the vet and they took x-rays and gave him fluids and told us that there may not be anything obstructing his bowel/stomach. Its been a week since we went to the vet, and I haven't seen any poop, he hasn't eaten much in the past week and has lost some weight. How much longer should I wait to take him to the vet?

My cat hisses at every creature other than her and humans and even attacks it. She might even scratch people if they annoy her. Is there anything I can do about it? She's 8 years old. She has always been this way.

We just adopted a BIG neutered male cat from a friend who passed away from cancer. He's a sweet boy, but he does not like to be brushed or groomed in any fashion. He loves to be petted, but when the brush comes out, so do the claws. He has long hair that is matted on his back and along his back legs. I believe we will probably have to take him someplace where he'll need to be sedated and have a close haircut to get rid of these tangles. Any suggestions? We want him to be groomed, but not at the expense of him being traumatized (or us, literally).

if i have two male kittens and get them both neutered at 6 months old will they not fight.

ive been told by other people who said they have had cats before that if i get two male kittens (brothers) they will fight all the time and one will chase the other kitten away as you cant have two males living in the same house even if they are neutered.

can anyone help as i havent got two males yet and wanted to check what other people had to say regarding the matter.

I was told I may need to put my new, adopted cat under anesthesia and get a cleaning done because she has such horrible marked tartar, how much does this usually cost, and is it safe for her? I have been brushing and giving her Greenies, but her teeth were so bad when I adopted her I think this may be my only option. Thanks in advance!

My female kitten is around a year and a half old. Shes been in heat alot and keeps spraying her scent all over the place and seems to be peeing on the carpet in one area. I can't figure out if its just because shes in heat or another reason.
If I get her fixed will she stop spraying?

I found a leaflet about Nutro cat foods, there is one which is called "diet" or sth. This one, plus all the other Nutro foods for adult and indoor cats, have the sign for urinary health on them (they adjust the cat's urine PH). The pet shop near us only brings the Nutro gold holistic series, which is supposedly even better, but none of the bags has the urinary health symbol on them (they have the bone symbol, the heart symbol, etc., but not the urinary tract). My cat has had a serious problem with lower urinary tract disease. He is generally on a diet of foods that adjust the urine PH (royal canin light, Hill's c/d, etc.). I heard that Nutro holistic foods are much better, but will they do for his urinary tract health?
Please only answer if you have had similar experience and know for sure, because this is a serious health matter.

It refuses to feed, and we dont have the money to bring it to the vet, is there anything esle we can do?

I have 2 female cats, one is about 2 years old and the other about 4 years old. When I got the younger one, the two adapted to each other pretty well. I fell in love with a kitten at the pound who is about 3-4 months old, but he is a male. He will be neutered before I bring him home. Should I not mix the different genders?? And also, will they be territorial with the litter box?? Any info and details would be greatly appreciated and will get 10 points!!

Oh and this is kind of urgent. I have until 10AM on 7/17/07 to decide!

Took my cat to the vet yesterday morning. Discharging blood and pus vaginally. Vet operated on her right away because he said she had pyometra.
I brought her home today but she doesn't seem to be doing very well.
The vet said he hoped that she would eat after she went home since she hadn't eaten. I haven't been able to get her to eat or drink. I have been giving her water with an eye dropper to try to keep her from dehydrating.
Has anyone had any experience with this disease and if so, what was the recovery time frame for your cat.
