My cat hisses at every creature other than her and humans and even attacks it. She might even scratch people if they annoy her. Is there anything I can do about it? She's 8 years old. She has always been this way.

I thought my cat was this way. We always hid other animals we brought home from the streets, until we found homes for them. Until recently, when we got a kitten and although he attacked it for the first month, now they are the best playmates ever! So don't give up hope. My cat was supposed to be the most ferocious creature on earth. even the vet is scared of him!But Penny (the new kitten) just loves him!

She's probably fearful. You may be able to cure it, or not, there is no way to tell, since, like humans, we don't all get along.
A friend of mine had a cat like that, even attacked her offspring (not while they were young though) - she had been abused as youngster and never got over that.
Lots of time and space is needed for a start, you have to make her feel secure. There is another way but it doesn't always work, where you just keep bringing new animals past her. We had one cat like that on the farm where we rehabbed animals, and when she saw there was no end to the animals, it's like it overloaded her brain and it just said "oh OK, I accept this".

Should been taken care of when she was much young. But the old saying you can't teach old cat new tricks. Is Bull when she acts like this just give her light tap and tell her firmly no and in time she will learn to stop this and behave. But it may take a long time. Also is the cat spayed if not then get her sparyed that will change a cats mod too.

My 11 year old ginger kitty, Chester, has no problem with our pet mice, letting them run around on his back and in his fur, but he is afraid of the rabbit (we think because the rabbit isn't fixed and is always trying to hump Chester). The problem comes in with the two newest additions, the Belle twins (two kittens). He hates them with a passion and never misses the opportunity to hiss, spit and growl at them. He even has popped at them a few times, but since he was declawed, this isn't a problem. We think he is just jealous of the newbies and don't force the issue. If he gets used to them, he does, if he doesn't, he doesn't.

some cats are just moody and some breeds are actually that way by nature. older cats get just like old people sometimes do they become cantankerous, but if you cat has always been this way its probably just the breed.
the best thing if this is a real problem keep a spray bottle of water near by and when she displays bad behavior mist her in the face and let her know it won't be tolerated. she will change in due time.
