At seven weeks of age the kittens are old enough to be eating kitten food. Personally I have always left dry food out for my cats (they like to eat throughout the day) during the day and in the evening I give them a partial can of wet food as a "treat."

i have a kitten book at home as i have 4 6 week old kittens and it says they should be fed 4 times a day, but only small amounts. once they are 6-9 months old then it shoudl go down to 3 times a day.
Im using whiskers kitten food - if your in the UK its on offer at the moment, 2 packs for £5 but dont give the kitten too much as they only have small tummys. And try not to give them anything with gravy in as ive found it gives them the runs and thats the last thing you need when your trying to litter train them!
good luck x

Hi Barbara!
At 7 weeks old your kitten should be fully weaned and able to eat kitten food.
Some will say that wet food is better; some will say dry.
Personally, I believe dry food is better - a complete food has all the nutrients your kitten needs, is better for their teeth, is less rich on their tummies, is safer to leave out all day, is cheaper and tends to be lower in calories.
I feed my kittens Iams, Purina One or Sainsbury's Complete kitten food (basically a supermarket equivalent to Iams - just as good quality, with a cheaper price tag).
Every few days, to give them some variety, I feed them an Iams pouch in gravy each - which they go berserk for!
At 7 weeks old, you may need to add a teaspoon of water to the dry food if your kitten has problems eating it. Our first kitten would only eat it if it was wet, but our new kitten loves it dry! So see how your kitten gets on.
They need to be fed 4 times a day if possible (morning, noon, afternoon and before bed). If you work during the day you can feed them a bigger meal before you set off, one in the evening and one before bad (this is what we have done with our kitten since he was 8 weeks old).
You might find that a diet of half wet food, half dry food suits you and your kitten best - just give it a few weeks before introducing wet food (if he's currently on dry food) so that his tummy can get used to all the changes.
xx Emmie

Hi, I have just had a home visit from Cats Protection as I want to adopt some kittens from them. They took me through every step of kitten care and they said kittens must be fed small portions of wet kitten food four times a day. The leaflet recommends feeding them at 7.00am, 1.00pm, 6.00pm and 10.00pm. Always make sure they have water available and give them some small amounts of dry food throughout the day too, but not as much as the wet food. Hope that helps.

At 7 weeks they should be being wheened of there mums milk. Therefore she should be having eithe meat mushed up or biscuits soaked in water until she is 12 weeks. However she should not bv away from her mum until she is between 8-10 weeks. She should be fed four times a day until she is 3-4 months, then three times a day until she is 6 months old then cut down to two times a day. She should be eating a tin of meat a day OR 2 1/2 mugfuls of biscuit a day
as she gets older 1 tin of meat and 2 mugs of biscuits a 6 months and the same for the rest of her life.

well i would feed them atleast twice a day with kitten food, also you can buy some soft food and mix it with the hard, and maybe soften it up for awhile so that the kittens teeth get a little more time develop, only maybe half cup to start with if the kitten is more hungry but watch its weight you dont want it eating to much and not little either good luck and congrats on the new kitten!

I always have dried kitten food on offer along side clean water. I give the wet food pouches ( kitten food i.e Whiskas/Felix) once or twice a day.
Your cat does not have to eat the wet food all in one go, just put it in their bowl and they will return to it when they want to.
Do not be alarmed if your cat does not eat the amount that the cat food manufactures recommend as mine never have and the vet says they are perfectly healthy .... it's like us humans, some eat more than others.

You'll get all kinds of answers on this topic. Personally, I feed my kitty dry food and I keep it available for her all day long. She eats as she pleases. I also have fresh water available for her.
(I do give her canned food as a 'treat' about once per week) I'm just really afraid that if I put her on a schedule, she might not eat as much as she needs b/c she's growing.
Observe your kitten's eating habits to see what works best.
