My cat licked frontline after I applied it. I thought I had gotten it where he couldn't reach it. He foamed at the mouth, can someone tell me if I need to rush him to the vet?
Thank you,

I called our Vet, and she assured me that it's normal for my cat to be foaming and as Kimbeej and Kricket stated it should not harm them. Just watch for the other signs. I feel so relieved, but will continue to monitor them. I feel terrible, in trying to help him, protect him I've made him uncomfortable. Thanks for the responses all of you.

It is natural for a cat to foam at the mouth whenever he ingests something that doesn't take good (ie...meds, frontline, etc...)
Frontline is completely safe so he should be ok. Just watch for the basic signs that something isn't right:
not eating or drinking
not using the litter box as normal
lethargic or listless
If any of those happen of course you should go to a vet. But in the many years that I have worked at a veterinary clinic, I have never seen an animal get sick from ingestingFrontline. If you are still unsure, just check their website.

My mom has worked wit Petco since I was born, even longer than that and I have been to her stores many times(my mother says I know more about pets than some of her employees). I know that Frontline can be very expensive, but it does work. And if your cat did happen to lick it, then there is o need to worry. Frontline is not toxic and it will not hurt your cat in any way. If she/he has thrown up within the 24 hours of giving the Frontline then she/he might have eaten something bad or they didn't like. But I assure you that Frontline is safe for all cats and dogs.

I found this page because I was doing a search on this myself. I use Revolution. My 4 cats were born to a feral mother so, they have that feral in them still. I've made a home for them in my garage with a pet door for them to go in and out. I feed them organic food and they have shelter so, they have a pretty good life. Ticks are semi bad this year so, I chose Revolution because my vet said it is the absolute best brand out there. Frontline is good too but Rev is top notch. Anyway, it's hard to get it exactly at the right spot where they can't lick. My cats lick the area too and damn it, they always seem to get a bit of it and make the "ick" face ... last month (June) everything seemed fine so, I guess it's OK. We just worry so much because we love our pets.

Some of these people really crack me up!!!! Yes IT IS TOXIC, as it is a pesticide!! While generally, it is not a strong enough toxic to kill a healthy cat, it can in deed make it sick and even cause neurological damage. Read the disclosure/disclaimer that came with it. As always, keep a keen eye on your cat, and if your cat gets lethargic over the next few days, call your vet and tell them what happened. This is why it was once only available by a vet, as proper application is essential to prevent the cat from licking it and ingesting it. Hope this helps, and while I don't mean to alarm you, it is always good to know what to possible expect so that if things do turn to the bad, you know why and what to do.

It tastes bitter and foaming at the mouth is a natural cat response to something that tastes bad. It won't hurt the cat at all.

foaming at the mouth is about as bad as it should get. But it never hurts to check with your vet's office.

i'm a fuddy duddy---i run my cat to the vet at a sneeze or the slightest provocation...so you know my answer...run to the vet with him yesterday. yet the cvt is most likely correct and your cat will foam at the mouth and gag for a spell and be just fine...they don't put that stuff out if it harms them (atleast i dont think they would...after the pet food issue with china, i wonder)

Nothing should happen. Frontline is safe. It will not hurt them if ingested.
