He's about to turn six for the past three years he has had constant urinary tract problems. He suffers from crystals in his urine for this he takes cystaid capsules every day and has a special dry vet diet. Recently he has produced blood in his wee samples leading to x-rays and a wee sample being taken straight from the bladder to locate this blood and rule out tumours. There was no concluding answers leaving him with metacam to have every day to stop the irration to his bladder as well as everything else. The next stop is a bladder sample being taken to see if the blood is the lining of the bladder breaking up or the crystals breaking it up. Nightmare! Does any body know of a cat with this or what the out come might be or is your cat just the same?

Oh my heavens I am so disturbed by your post. I had a cat with bladder cancer and when Metacam was prescribed for him I ran across the results of an FDA study on its use with cats and was horrified that vets would use it (I guess they thought he would die anyway). So, though it has now been "approved" for use in cats you MUST go to http://www.persiancats.org and click under Medical Alerts to read the FDA study report. There is also another site that a person has created because his cat came close to dying from using it. I think that one is: http://www.metacamkills.org

Dry diets are the prime culprit in exacerbating any urinary problems in cats. If the special veterinary diets don't work in a few months you need to go another route not continue them for THREE years. Please go to: http://www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article, "Urinary Tract Disorders in Cats, "Why Cats Need Canned Food", and "What Cats Should Eat". Those are all at the end of the articles in her article library because they are in alphabetical order.

My cat had a serious problem with blood, he had an infection. He got antibiotics that didn't work, and he was blocked. Anyway, the vet who was treating him made horrible mistakes, he had to do a urethrostomy (cut his penis), but he did that wrong, and the poor cat would die if we had not found a great surgeon-vet who operated on him again, he took teh correct antibiotics and he is fine ever since. So my advice is:
1. Give him a lot of water. If possible, give him canned food, special for crystals but canned food, not dry, and add extra water in it. The more dilute the urine the less crystals he produces. If he doesn't like the added water, give him a bit with a syringe.
2. Get the best vet you can find. These problems get solved eventually, if the vet is very good. The fact that he hasn't faced your cat's problem for so many years makes me worry.
3. Do a culture at the sample of urine you get from him, and a sensitivity test to the bacteria found, so that he can get the correct antibiotic. Baytril is usually a good choice, but you have to check with the vet.
4. Good luck.

commence feeeding your cat a canned nutrition in simple terms weight loss software and not something with fish in it. Your cat may be experiencing somethine they call FLUTD it incredibly is a decrease urinary tract situation. It sounds like an infection yet there could no longer likely be any an infection. you ought to have the cat checked for bladder stones and crystals they make particular diets for this and in case you feed those and easily those it clears up many situations. however the cat could choose the particular weight loss software for the remainder of it incredibly is existence. There are no longer likely any domicile remedies for this and including a unrine acidifier on your cats weight loss software could reason organ harm so as that's no longer continuously maximum suitable except supervised by your vet.

i really feel for you as its never nice having a cat thats ill. you always wonder if they're in pain. i know as i lost one of my cats beginning of june. my friend has a cat with the same problem. i know he goes for regular check ups at the vets and has a special diet. i think thats dried cat food too. don't think he's on any meds though. they were told that the vet who neutered him didn't do it properly and thats what causes the crystals. i do hope you get a result and find out the problem. good luck honey i wish you and your cat all the best. i'll be thinking of you both x

Damien, my friend's cat, had the same and he had to be hospitalised and cathertised for a few days to allow the crystals to clear and now he's not allowed dry food of any kind, so the best thing to do is take him to the vets and follow their intructions implicitly.

Hope that helps

This is a very common problem of cats. Look up google for Idiopathic cystitis in cats.

It is believe that stress may be an underlying cause for this. it is likely to be ongoing and your cat to stay on meds long term. I recommend to purchase them cheaper online:

All cats have bladder problems, they've got bladders, they piss everywhere stinking the whole place up, your house must stink, all cats should be de-bladdered at birth.
