How do you deal with the litter problem?

Ive got a small balcony I put the litter box in because Ive got no space for it inside, but the cats usually have to sleep in the balcony at night because of this. Any ideas on how to keep them inside and with less smell from litter box ? Much appreciated.

Are you serious? You should not have your cats going out onto a balcony. What if one would fall off?

I have 2 cats in a small apartment. I combat smell by cleaning the box often, 2 times a day, and spraying Oust Air neuralizer in Unscented formula. Cats are very particular about smell, so any air freshners should be unscented or you can have some extreme litter box issues. Personally I find the litters with low to no scent to be best because if the scent is to where you can smell it, it is overwhelming to some kitties and they won't use it. Also, most of the scented litters are too strong and smell funk y in my opinion.

With 3 cats, you ideally need 4 litter boxes. I somehow made 3 box work in my tiny apartment. You are supposed to have 1 box for every cat plus 1. I have 2 uncovered boxes in the main area because they are the best to use, and then 1 very open covered box in the bedroom to help maintain litter in the box (cats do not like covered boxes). WIth 3 cats, you may have trouble with covered boxes as the cats may feel ambushed since they can't see all around if another cat would be near.

You need to find room for at minimum 2 boxes, and clean them very often to prevent avoidance issues.

THat's weird... I have three cats in a small apartment. what we did is we have the litter box on the balcony so they can use it their...but if you want it inside make a small spot for them, and put it their. As for the smell, you can buy cat litter that has a smell in it that is more clean, or just clean it frequently. Hope this helped.

There are 2 solutions:
1. A cat flap door, you put it on the balcony door, so that they can get in and out.
2. Clean the litterbox as soon as they poop. It sounds too much work, but it isn't. I always go and scoop the poop away as soon as they do it. It doesn't stay there even for a minute to start stinking. The cats like this so much, that they wait for me to get home and they call me when they want to go poop, so that I can clean their box immediately. There is no sign of a smell in the house, and there are 6 kitties here at the moment!

oh my god! what will you do when one or more of your kittens falls off the balcony and smashes it's head open. put the litter box and kittens inside. you can have them out there under strict supervision and make sure to have them on leashes so if one does fall it's not going to smash it's head open.

put a flap in the door to the balcony. keep them free and the stink outside.

mine've got thier own cat tube from their flap to the roof of the sheds in the gardens from there they can get down. If i had a see-through tube I could get some mad pictures of 'floating cats'.

Buy a cat loo, it has a lid, carbon filters and flap for them to get in and out, I presume you would have space for it somewhere? It doesn't smell as bad.
