So I adopted a cat from the humane shelter about one month ago. The cat had previously lived in an abusive home where her owner would throw her against the wall which caused some severe nerve damage in her back legs, causing her to limp and tumble quite often. When I adopted her, her movement was seriously impaired, but she has made great improvements since she's stayed at my home.

However, tonight, when I came in from a night out, I picked her up and noticed that she had feces all over her backside, caking over her anus and stuck in patches of fur on her tail; naturally, she smelled absolutely awful.

When I put her down, I also noticed that one of her legs is almost completely immobile. She's been pulling herself along with carpet on her front paws since I got here, and when she stands up on her back leg she quickly falls down. Mostly, she holds this useless leg out in front of her as she crawls.

I have no idea what I should do. Is this normal, or is this an emergency?

i don't own the cats, otherwise i woulda found a way to silence them myself. so here's what's going on: outside my window, down in the street, there are 2 or more cats that are either FIGHTING or F*CKING in the middle of the night, while i'm trying to SLEEP!
how the hell do i shut them up & keep them quiet?
or at the least get them out of my neighborhood?

I was reading news stories online and came across one about a cat. Apparently, two girls set an 8 week old kitten on fire, and while the cat was squealing in pain the girls were laughing. HOW can anyone be so disturbed!?!?! Thankfully, the kitty survived but the tips of his ears and his tail had to be amputated.

If you want to read more about it, here is a link to the story, but beware because it has a pic of the kitty on it
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,289880,00.html

If you ask me, I think it's only fair that those girls be set on fire for their punishment

Since my wife and I brought home two kittens our adult cat hisses every time the kittens are near. The problem is it has been about 6 weeks and my adult cat has hissed so much that she seems to have some sort of throat issue where she can't meow! Her normal meows come out squeaky or not at all. She still hisses but it is weaker. Does excessive hissing cause damage to a cats throat? Should we take her to our veterinarian?

We are adopting a cat from the local animal shelter. He/She will be strictly indoors. If you were putting together a complete shopping list for new cat supplies what would you include? What could your cat not live without and what was a complete waste of money? Please include brands and website links if you have them.
Thanks - I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!!

My neighbor just had her cat of 5yrs put down today. The Vet said he had Feline Leukemia. Alot of the neighbora have kittens and cats. Some of which I and she feed. Now I have washed all the bowls with bleach. But, what can we do about the yard? Is it infected as well. if so, how do we treat the yard so no other cat gets it? i don't own a cat. I don't need to , I feed 5 now as it is. I can't stand to see a cat go hungry, when the neoighbors have them and don't put out food. There are 2 kittens about 4 months, 1 is about 6 months, and then there is Momma cat, and she is prego again. Now none of these cats have had their shots of any kind at all. Does this make them more at risk?

We bathed our cats twice with flea killing shampoo...We moved out and bombed the house...we used Bio spot (a cheaper version of Frontline)...then when that didnt work, we dished out over $100 bucks on Fronline...That STILL didnt work! Is it worth trying Advantage? And is it safe after just using Frontline?

After careful thought we have decided to add a cat to our household...the only problem is that the landlord will only accept adult cats. We would like to adopt from the local animal shelter and while I am not at all opposed to adopting an adult cat (and will if we find the right one) I feel (as does the vet i consulted with) that a younger cat may adapt to life with a young child better. So my question is: At what age could a kitten pass for a small cat? SIx months? Older? Younger? Thanks for your thought!

I've had a kitten (male) for about 2 weeks and still haven't given him a name. We have another cat who's name is Winston, and his brother and sister (who live with my cousin) are named Pumy and Gia. It'd be nice if the names corresponded. It's hard because if I decide on a name, my mom or brother doesn't like it. Here are some names that we don't want: (we tried these, but they didn't work)

Liam, Leo, Charlie, Frankie, Eli, Baby, churchill, stuey, sammy

Thanks!

P.S. We're not really into names like mittens, blackie, etc.

I know most of the cats in my community, and I've never seen this one before. It came to our door a few days ago and invited itself in, just looked around. My grandma wouldn't have it stay overnight, but it's come back several times. It's a beautiful cat, big but very skinny with matted fur. No identification. It doesn't seem to be a stray because it's very friendly, but we're not sure what to do because it seems sick. It has trouble eating, and prefers to be fed. We don't have a cat, or cat food, so we've been giving it small chunks of meat. It has been drinking a lot of water, working its mouth and licking it, and twitching its tail irritatedly. It seems to have trouble laying down, and sort of sidesteps before flopping over. It doesn't mind being picked up but did kind of moan. Do you think it might be something serious? If so, what should we do?

My 8 1/2 month old cat just threw up twice ... he's done this before because he ate something stupid outside and then didn't feel good, and puked it up. But this time, his throw up had some stringy looky things in it - some musty gray colored and others a burnt-looking black. I don't think it's worms cause he's had his shots up to date, and we use the flea/tick stuff on him once a month like we're supposed too. But, should I be really concerned about the stringy things, or not?

I am going on vacation tomorrow afternoon and will be back late Sunday night. Is my cat okay if I leave her with plenty of water and a lot of dry food? She normally eats canned food but will eat the dry if thats all there is.

There are a lot of cats in the area and I'm getting fed up of this situation. At 1st they were coming in the bk garden and peeing there, but now it seems they have gotten into the house and possibly done their business in my house. Is nothing sacred anymore?. Please help me because I've been doing washing and ironing all day and now discover that I need to do it again.

There is a strange cat in my neighborhood.
when I come, He does not run away like the other cats do.
All the time, I sit beside him and he comes to me and pushes me with his little head, almost all the time. Is this act called rubbing?

What he also does is that he bites my hand -of course not to the degree that it hurts- when I try to touch his head(the sign that I like pets). I don't think it is an aggresive behaviour

so the question is... Does this cat like me?
