The quaetion should really be 'what' should i and should I not be feeding my cat.
You should not be feeding dry food to your cat. A much higher percentage of cats fed dry are overweight compared to cats on canned foods. Dry foods are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats have troubke processing. Besides ovesity, dry fod is the number 1 cause in cats getting diabetes and has a hand in kidney disease, crystals and may other types of health problems down the line. Caned foods without gravy would be alot healthier and I would bet you would have a much more in shape cat then you have now. Please read up on cat nutrtion.

Twice a day is fine, they digest things every 4-6 hours so they'd be hungry every 12 for sure.

If you want to cut the rations down by a third, add in a third feeding to get her tided over during the day, that can be done. Or divide up the total she usally gets into four sections and feed every six hours, that's ok too. She'd still be getting the grand total in a full day's time, but it might be easier on her that way, being able to fill her stomach a little throughout the day.

To keep my two cats at the proper weight, I feed them Felidae, which is a healthy dry cat food. I feed them 1 cup (total for both of them) once a day. If they start to get a little heavy, which they often do in the Winter, I feed just slightly less than a cup. This way it reduces their weight slowly and they aren't starving because of it.

I don't recommend the diet or light foods. I've tried a few of them and they made my cats hungrier and the litterbox smell horribly.

Try feeding a diet lower in calories. Most brands have a "light" option. If that doesn't work then there are special weightloss diets available for Science Diet and Purina. Also trying to get her to exercise more will help too.

yah, twice a day sounds good. I used to feed my cat three or four times a day but, that's 'cause she's WAY too skinny.

I think twice is good. I leave my cat food out all the time though, but if you are trying to make your kitty lose weight, maybe once in the morn and once at nite time.
