This cat probably likes you. The head butting is a sign the cat is comfortable around you and enjoys your company. Congratulations - you have made friends with a member of another species! The biting is a cat's way of asking many things, such as if you want to play or feed him. When playing with him, realize he is a cat who thinks about the world in a very different way from you. His idea of fun may become rougher than you want so you need to avoid letting him think you don't mind getting clawed or bitten. Boxing or playing rough with him will increase aggressive behavior, so try not to think he understands what he is doing to your poor skin. He doesn't realize your skin is not as tough as his furr and may hurt you without expecting to. He doesn't understand slapping or smacking him as a way to stop his bad manners. It isn't bad manners to him. If he plays too roughly, simply withdraw your hand and stop. Say "no" firmly and a little louder than you normally speak to him when he misbehaves. He will get the idea that you don't want to do things that way. Playing with him by gently shaking a feather or small twig or dragging it on the ground so he chases it is a good game you will both enjoy. He is beginning to trust you so if you want to continue being friends, you may want to help the homeless little guy by offering small amounts of food. One of the hardest things for a stray or wild animal to get is a supply of fresh clean water. Placing a clean container of fresh water where he can get it easily and safely is a blessing for him (and others) and allows you to advance your good karma in this world. Be sure it is placed where it can stay as clean as possible. If your friendship grows strong enough, you may want to adopt him and let him share your home, but be sure to take him to a vet for shots and neutering. Neutering sounds rough, but will cut down on his natural instinct to fight and spray urine (the way male cats mark their turf) and reduces aggressive behavior. It also prevents him from making more homeless kitties come into the world. The shots, esp for rabies are really important for his and your health. Feel free to contact me on this site if you have other questions.

My cat does the rubbing thing to and the answer is is that he loves you try to leave some food out or some milk soon he'll love you enough that he'll let you hold him and pet him. Also if he's marking you as his then that is a sign that he trusts you not completly but still he trusts you. And afterwards you can keep him as your own, give him to the humane society, or keep him in the position he is know a stray. So anyways good luck.

Yes, the cat likes you, but he probably doesn't trust you completley. Just be patient. If he bites you really hard, then he's probably afraid of being petted on the head, but if it doesn't hurt that much, he's probably playing (think of it as a kiss). My cat used to do that too...congrats! :D
p.s. maybe you should consider taking him home :)

This cat loves you. Head butting is a sign of affection. And the bites are little love bites.

Yes, I think he does. Maybe he just doesn't like being touched on the head. Maybe he wants food or a home. Try rubbing his cheek with the back of your fingers(nail side). If he rubs your hand, he has marked you. If not, maybe you're not the right human for him, lol.

yes it sounds like that cat likes you, but if it is just when you try to pet him on the head when he bites you than his head might hurt

The cat likes you, if he rubbs on you. He may bite because he doesn't like his head touched, or he doesn't trust you yet.
He may also bite because he has ear mites or something that hurts him, and he thinks you might hurt him.
Good Luck!

Oh, yes!!!! The bumping of his head is actually him scenting you with a gland that marks you as "his". The playful nipping of your hand is a sign of affection. He must be very comfortable with you to display this kind of behavior.
He has obviously chosen you, maybe it's time to take him home!!!!

He absolutely loves you!! I mean, for a stray cat, he is being more affectionate to you than my cat ever is to me! I suggest you feed him or even take him in as a pet.
