I know most of the cats in my community, and I've never seen this one before. It came to our door a few days ago and invited itself in, just looked around. My grandma wouldn't have it stay overnight, but it's come back several times. It's a beautiful cat, big but very skinny with matted fur. No identification. It doesn't seem to be a stray because it's very friendly, but we're not sure what to do because it seems sick. It has trouble eating, and prefers to be fed. We don't have a cat, or cat food, so we've been giving it small chunks of meat. It has been drinking a lot of water, working its mouth and licking it, and twitching its tail irritatedly. It seems to have trouble laying down, and sort of sidesteps before flopping over. It doesn't mind being picked up but did kind of moan. Do you think it might be something serious? If so, what should we do?

Being friendly does not preclude it from being a stray - it could be abandoned or just nice. I'd hope an owner would have taken the poor thing to the vet already. But yes, it sounds like something serious.
Those symptoms also sound like CRF (kidney failure), which often looks like hyperthyroidism. Excessive thirst, licking of the lips, weight loss, not getting comfortable, nausea and no appetite are symptoms. In any case, I agree with not letting it near any of your animals if you haven't already, in case you are dealing with something communicable.
It could use a vet visit to get bloodwork and a urinalysis, but I'm not sure what you should do if the diagnosis is not good. I guess you could cross that bridge when you get to it. I'd suggest a shelter, but I suspect it would be put down immediately :(
I wish I had a better answer, that's very tough.

It relies upon on the area. If the canine is whelping a clutter of domestic dogs or a cat has a sprint diarhhea then the 1st selection may be to shelter it at domicile to work out if the area gets better. And mutually as waiting human beings can ask different puppy vendors in the event that they have any strategies on a thank you to handle the situation and ask for time-honored suggestion. If it does not get better then the subsequent selection is the vet. some human beings do have some hum dingers on right here, yet for the main section the questions are stable, valid ones.

well if the cat is very skinny, it probably isnt getting fed which means it most likely is a stray even though it may be friendly. i got my cat at a shelter that was a stray and she was very skinny from not being fed but she is at a normal weight now and is one of the nicest cats ive ever seen. but heres the deal really, if you really care about the cat, u will take it in your own home to keep and then take it to the vet....or u could bring it to the nearest animal shelter, but plz do one of the 2, dont leave the cat living outside so she cant be taken care of properly.

It depends on whether you think you want to adopt this cat as a pet, or if you just want to make sure it's ok. Both are admirable.
If you want to adopt it, you should take it to the vet and get it checked out. I think it sounds like it has problems that need a veterinarian's care.
If you're concerned about its well-being, but don't want to adopt it, take it to the nearest animal shelter or Humane Society, and it will get the care it needs.

Take the kitty to a vet for blood tests. He may need some treatment, and hw definitely needs de-worming, de-fleaing and vaccinations if he is on the streets, so if you are so kind and loving, just take him to the vet to provide some treatment that may save his life!

I know he's not yours, but you sound very kind. If you can afford to, please consider taking the poor thing to the vet. It sounds like the kitty is someone's pet who got lost or was abandoned. He might have worms, or coccidia, or something of that nature from eating whatever was available before he found you. If you just can't afford the vet, please take him to the local SPCA and surrender him. They will provide veterinary care and try to place him. I know that's not the most pleasant solution, but it's better than letting him worsen. Good luck, and thanks for being kind to animals!

If it is really serious which it sounds like from the description try taking it to a vet and see what's going on.

This cat needs to get to a vet. Some pets have microchips in them and their owners can be tracked this way.

It is my opinion the cat has distemper. A feline disease. Dont allow this cat around any other of your animals. This cat will probably have to be put down.
