My 8 1/2 month old cat just threw up twice ... he's done this before because he ate something stupid outside and then didn't feel good, and puked it up. But this time, his throw up had some stringy looky things in it - some musty gray colored and others a burnt-looking black. I don't think it's worms cause he's had his shots up to date, and we use the flea/tick stuff on him once a month like we're supposed too. But, should I be really concerned about the stringy things, or not?

Hi sounds like your cat might of either had a hair ball or he did indeed eat something outside. Try just watching to see how he is and if he still throws up later maybe get some dewormer from the et and give it to him for three days to clean his systetm out. hope this helps!

Cats often throw up because of hair they swallow when they groom themselves (hairballs). It helps to give the cat some hairball remedy about once a week. You can get it at the pet store, or sometimes grocery stores have it in the pet food section. The brand I've used is called Petromalt, but there are other brands available as well.

The first time you give it to the cat, he may not want to take it. Smear it on the top of his paws, and he'll lick it off. After a while, he will probably become used to it, and may even like it enough to lick it off your finger.

Hairballs can make a cat very sick and listless. Cats often do throw up, but it is not "normal" for them to do so. Try the hairball remedy. If that doesn't fix the problem in a week or so, a trip to the vet might be in order.

This doesn't sound like an emergency. Possibly ate something out of the ordinary like carpet fuzz or even dust bunnies. Unless this happens more often, and if the litter box is normal, don't fret.

My one kitty threw up a couple of times today, with mushy gray contents. This was not a hairball, so no telling what she decided to eat. But everything else seems normal, so I just chalk it up to having a cat.

If it happens more, and they appear the same as you described, just take a sample along to the vet and you will have peace of mind.

It could have been a very small hairball although usually they upchuck something more substantial when they do a hairball.

Cat's throw up A LOT! Most the time you don't need to worry. It is usually due to hairballs, which you can help by grooming them and giving them hairball treats or food. They can also have problems if they eat their food to fast. If this is the culprit they'll throw up with in 15 min. of eating and it will mostly be undigested food. You'll need to get kitty to slow down eating by putting their food on plate or put a golf ball in their bowl. When to go to the Vet: If your kitty throws up multiple times in one day, especially if it's for two or more days in a row. There are possibilities that you kitty swallowed something that has got stuck in its intestines or has some other serious problem. Watch their behavior, if they act unusual or are in distress go to the vet!

Unless the stringy things moved, I'd say he got a hold of a bird, if his shots are up to date, I wouldn't worry too much. If he continues to throw up, no matter where he is, then it's time to get him to the vet.

cats puke, I wouldn't worry about it.

A few weeks ago, my cat was on the back of the couch, a buddy of mine and I were on the ends of the couch talking. My cat puked up a slug about 6 inches from my friends face. It was gross but no real concern.

Could they be hair balls? Do they look like a mash made of hair? In stomach liquid, usually they throw up the hair balls with the stomach liquids, not with food.

Sounds like a fur ball. It happens all the time. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
