Sometimes it is hard to unlearn the behavior if your don't have them neutered in time (at age 6 months). It is also a way to show dominance over the other cat. My male that was neutered does that to my female, but he is shopwing his dominance, not trying to mate.

I had a puppy neutered yesterday. Right here on the written info I received afterwards it says it can take anywhere up to 6 weeks to get the hormones out of the system. More usual is 1-2 weeks. I know it's the same for cats.

Be sure that if the female is in heat he's not left with her because if the first little while he can still get her pregnant while the hormones are still there.

That's because he remembers that it feels good! He does not yet realize that, while the desire is there, the ability is gone. Would you be able to become suddenly celebate if Mel Gibson or Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp (you get the picture, just fill in the blanks) was your roommate? Don't worry about it because this is completely normal. His hormones will level out soon and he'll be okay.

It takes up to a month for the hormones to get out of his system. But if he's been neutered, he at least can't father kittens.

You need to get her spayed now, to make sure she's going to be kitten free and not come into season anymore.

Humping is a behavioral habit. Use a squirt bottle with clean water to squirt him when he does it. You have to break the habit and that'll take a while.

This is why it's best to neuter them earlier than one year of age. The bad habits may have already set in.
