Cats - May 2007

There is a cat that comes around my house once and a while and it continually grows thinner. My dad is extremely paranoid about having pets, except for fish (ugh), and thus he would never let me keep it or feed it. I can't really drive to ShopRite and buy cat food, because first of all I cant drive and second where would I put it? I understand that if I feed it, it would continue to come back to my house and kind of become "my pet". If I somehow befriend it and pet it would I catch a disease? Anything deadly? And what would be the symptoms?

Oneday, I saw my cat made my dog angry. so, my hugh doggy almost bited the cat`s head, but he just didn`t. I think the most of reason they are friend. but why the doggy do that action? that would be very dishonorable happen to my cat.

here`s the other story.

Oneday, I saw my cat brutely ate a couple of lizards, then she back to me and show her lovely and smilely face to mewing.
I`m so disappointed about my cat at that day, and i never forget that happen. so, I made a conclusion - My cat=Girl.

i know that i am going to have to take my cat to the vet. but its 3 pm on a saturday. everything is closed... but i just noticed that my cat has a hole in its left arm. and it appears to have pus in it. i just cleaned some of it out with hydrogen peroxide and put gauze on it until i can take him to the vet. but i have NO CLUE where this came from. he is an indoor cat and couldn't have gotten outside and into a fight.

just wondering does anyone know what might have happened? or what it could be?

We have 4 cats. 2 of which have recentley gotten ear mites. is there a way to keep this from spreading to my other 2 cats?

how can ear mites be brought into our house? is it only from another animal? or something in the air?

and are ear mites cureable or are they a permanent problem? The reason I ask is because I remember my uncle having a dog who had to be treated with drops for ear mites his whole life.

We have been cleaning out the cats ears with a q-tip and an antibacterial wash...and really don't know what to do from here,

thanks

My cat was spayed almost two weeks ago, and she was given dissolvable stitches (so said the vet). The incision is healing really well. I'm just a little troubled by this hard, thread-like thing sticking out of the incision. It's very tiny (only about 1 mm long). Is this normal? My cat doesn't seem to be bothered by its presence and is behaving normally, but I'm worried nonetheless. Any experienced cat owners willing to shed some light on this, please? Thank you.

Hi,
We have 2 cats (indoor) and have somehow managed to pick up fleas, they both have collars and I applied the Hartz neck treatment on the 28th April. The cats are still scratching and the female has black bits in her white fur, I aren't even sure the flea stuff is working.

The carpets are now infested (the cars even managed to pick a couple up) I'm going to bomb the house on Monday or Wednesday but need advice on whats the best treatment before and after. Is there anything special I have to do other than cover food stuff & turn off pilot lights etc. Thanks for any help!!

We recently moved to a flat with a balcony and our well-loved cat really enjoys sitting out there and watching the birds and other cats, but we think its causing him stress so much he is peeing blood all over the flat. The vet said there is no bacteria in the blood and that its stress related and gave us some drops to give him, but now we are stressing him out more by trying to give it to him. he seems terrified in the house and yet so, so happy sat out in the balcony. He isnt neutered. could this help? Should we really take his balcony from him? Any good advice?

My 15 year old Siamese mixed cat, Eddy, is having problems keeping his food in his digestive system. After a few minutes, like today, he thows it up. He's getting older and it doesn't seem like he'll make it through this year. I don't want him to be miserable, but I don't want to lose him either. What should I do?

I have a cat that is about 4 years old. I got him when he was a kitten. He has been destructive since day one. Everyone said, "He's a kitten, he'll grow out of it"...but that still has not happened. To this day, he has destroyed my new furniture and my apartment and has cost me so much money in damages. I woke up this morning and my kitchen walls were ripped to shreds. I love him so much, but can't take this anymore...can't afford to keep paying for the damages he causes. IM AT MY WITS END!!!

about 6 weeks ago i noticed moving white seasame seed shaped things on her faeces. I figured this was tapeworm and i wormed her and my other cat with a worming tablet that said it covered tape worm. About 24 hours later the worm came out, quite skinny and about 12inch long. Tonight i noticed the same seasame seed shaped things on her faeces, how is this possible? i have never had a worm problem with her before & the tablet said it covered them for 3 months! was this tapeworm? can i worm her again so soon?

I have a cat that has according to a vet... nerve damage around the bladder due to either being kicked or hit. The first few days the cat couldnt walk at all but now it runs upstairs like a kitten, She is 14 years old and because of the damage to her back, the nerves around her bladder stop her from peeing properly, instead she just dribbles and there is no sign of it getting better. She has had two jabs from the vet, the vet said if it was his cat he would have it put to sleep as there is too much work to do looking after and cleaning up. The vet also said that he has seen a lot of cats with the same problem who have fully recovered in 2-4 months.

If there is anyone out there with good soild advice on what to do, whether to put her to sleep or keep her going, please give any advice you can. The work is getting harder and harder to cope with.

I just noticed yesterday that my 1 year old cat has what looks like a red sore on what would be her lip of she where human. Sort of the side of outside her mouth. It's red and sort of has really tiny black dots on it. Its hard to describe but could anyone possibly have an idea of what it could be with the little description I made. At least if it would be serious or could get serious. I already have lost a cat at a young age so it obviously worries me whenever anything is wrong with any of mine.

I cant exactly afford to take her to the vet this moment but obviously I would if I had to.
