Cats - February 2007

[Selected]: All categories Pets Cats

I have had this cat for about a year now, I rescued my cat from an abandoned car, (not sure of what the parents looked like) with about five other kittens. He is the only one that looked Siamese with the sandy coloring, black face, ears, feet and tail but he doesn't have the distinctive eyes of a Siamese (they are the very pretty blue though) and they look like a regular tabbys eyes. I have seen other cats like this but can never find a certain breed or mix to look them up by. Just wanting to know and possibly see pictures of other cats like this online. Any help will be greatly appreciated :-)

it is located where a nipple may be and it is large completely round and has grown so it is now above her skin line.. she is licking it every day and it is an open wound which bleeds.. could this be cancer? her diet is still ok and she is still going to the bathroom- I have to say she is about 16yrs old- maybe just an age thing?

Didnt know how to word the question right. But someone told me that theres a certain color that male cats can be but is rare among females. I thought it was orange tabby but was incorrect. Is it Calico?

Okay, I've been hearing about this a lot lately and it both intrigues and disturbs me. Has anyone tried it? Does it clump? How are the clumps (actually scoopable or just a big mushy mess)? How is the odor control?

I've been searching for litter alternatives for awhile now, since the dust of normal litter (even "dust free" ones) is really bothering my allergies and making my cats sneeze, a lot. Plus the fragrances in some of these litters are worse than the dust even. And having 2 cats that really like to pee a lot, the amount of money we spend on litter is ridiculous.

Chicken feed would be a much cheaper and healthier alternative, but with the way my cats pee, good clumping is imperative. I'm just afraid to go buy a bag of chicken feed then have to throw it all away if it doesn't work well. Especially since there isn't a big chicken farming business here in LA that I could even donate to.

Thank you for any help you all can offer, it is GREATLY appreciated!

Okay we have a stray cat that we kindof take care of, she trusts us and we call her ninja. We feed her and everything, but for a while she disapeared. (she wont come inside) Now shes back and she has a broken leg or foot.. I can't really tell. Its late and we don't have transportation to any vet place and my mom wont let me do what I want. I have money for a taxi if any vet place would be open right now, but my mom says no. (along with insulting me saying that I could never be a vet b/c thats what I want to be) So I want to keep her inside, even though she don't like it out of the cold until tommarrow. But my mom says no to that too. So shes outside in the cold with a broken foot or leg meowing for help and what am I supposed to do? My moms in a terrible mood and threatening me with fists and stuff *is mad at her* so I don't want to push my luck, but I also want to help ninja. WHat do I do? Serious answers only please. Sorry if this is messy and un-grammar like I am in a hurry! Thnx!

We have 2 female cat's who are spayed. They are outdoor cat's but come inside to eat. We have never had a problem with them. Over the 6 month's or so, we ahve been having some problem's. All of a sudden we have about 6 cat's ahnging around our yard. One in fact I know is a stray and I have caught him in the act spraying one of our car's. Everyday there is the spell of cat urine all around our house, front door, car's etc.. TAll of the cat's that are hangin around are male cat's. I believe it is them sparying.
Im gettign really frustrated because the smell is horrible and i have children who play outside and i believe they are spraying her outdoor toy's. IOt seems to be where ever our cat's are at, they spray.
Is there any way to get rid of these tom cats from spraying? If we got rid of our cat's would they go away?

Please help!!!

We adopted a cat that was a stray. I bought her some cheap dry cat food. After a week she started throwing it up and won't eat it any more. She will eat soft cat food but is still throwing up. What should I feed her? I tried mixing rice in her soft food but that didn't work.

Mya is approx 7 months old now, she is a feral short hair domestic and Manx mix. I found her at 5 weeks old dying from pneumonia and severe eye conjunctivitis . Several months and several hundreds of dollars later she can see and has not had any colds (knock wood) for the past 3 months. I feed her and my very large 17lb male Verus, a very healthy all natural cat food, however not much weight gain. She does not look think or sickly but only weighs about 3.5lbs. She looks like a miniature cat with tiny little feet and features. I was wondering if the fact that she was so sick when I found her be they reason for her small size. I have seen the father who is very large and if I may add mean and nasty the mother is an average size cat.

What do I do with my dead cats?. I have been storing them in a freezer untill I can find an environmentaly safe way of disposing of them. The vet said his cats go for incineration but incineration is a no no due to emissions to air of nasty stuff like dioxins. How do I dispose of the cats bodies in an environmentaly way?

My partner andI are currently living with another couple and they have 2 cats. unfortunatly the cats have fleas. The woman is trying to sort them out but it seems to be taking a while, and unfortunatly when I get bitten I get bitten bad and the spots come up like a rash almost. Its itchy and horible and I scratch the spots until I bleed sometimes. At least then I get some sort of relief, even if they can get sore (I keep the wounds clean and cared for btw)

I hate living like this though, as you can imagine. So until the fleas are gone what can I do to stop them biting me, or at least stop the itch!

HELP!!

I was following this drunk bloke who picked up a dead cat, he put it by by the side of the road.
When he had gone a fox came along and eat it.
Problem solved, is nature wonderful? or what!

My cat was diagnosed with kidney failure and given days to weeks to live... that was months ago. The cat seems to be happy and doing alright... eatting well and using the bathroom.

Lately, however, her stomach (which was non-exsistant) is now bloating out bigger than ever. What's happening to her? My mom is thinking about taking her to the vet, but feels that there might be nothing that can be done.

anyone have a similar situtaion? any pre-vets or vets that know what's going on? retaining water, perhapes?

My kitten is 6months old. When we first got her we were told she had ear mites and to get rid of them asap. We had them under control until a week ago her ears are bright pink and warm. I have cleaned them with store bought ear mite ointment and hydrogen and peroxide. She has been whining a lot the last two days and rolling onto her back more then usual crying. We were told that it might be because she is starting to go into heat since she just tuned 6months old this month. She isn’t her normal playful self she keeps crying until she is next to me and lets me pet her(her lower stomach or ears). We have given her a bath today and cleaned her ears twice. They both seemed to help calm her down but she is still crying a lot. I don’t know if she is in heat or if it’s just her ears any suggestions on what I should do? I want to comfort her!
