Salt for cats is just like salt for humans, a little treat is okay but too much can cause many health problems.

Here's something I betcha didn't know. All living things need a little bit of salt. True! The county I live in started out as a salt boiling village. There is a salty creek, called oddly enough, Salt Creek, where water was drawn, boiled and the salt scraped from the boilers. It was discovered by watching the animals lick salt from the edges of the bank. Animals need it, plants get it from the soil, and humans need a little, too. Just not in excess.
And I had a Siamese cat that went crazy when you opened a bag of chips. He loved those salty potato chips. Especially barbecue.

If you give your kitty wet food it has salt in it as does dry food. If kitty enjoys table scraps chances are there is salt in the scraps.
If you season kitty's food with salt then your nuts. LOL.

What cats need they get in their kitty food. A kitty usually does not get sick eating "human treats".

But no, A cat does not need salt as it does water for example.

If you feel your kitty is lacking in the nutrition department then pack er' up and off to the vet you go!

I would NOT give a cat salt but if it accidentally eats a little, it won't kill it. It's just not healthy. Cats love salt. My cat tears open bags of potatoe chips 'cause of the salt!
