take the cat in question, spread its little leg apart and look "down there" and check for a nut-sack by its little a s s. if you dont find one, then its probably a girl cat. by the way, if it does have a nut sack, chances are its covered with hair.

At five months, if it's a male, you should be able to see if it has testes. Another way to tell is this: look at the cat's behind. A female's privates will look like an upside-down exclamation point. A male's will look like a colon. ! or :
