Be careful of the cat getting to cold, to hot and sun burnt. Don't shave the face as it is irritating for the hair to grow back. Usually people also will not recommend to shave the legs and tail as well as the fur helps protect the extremities in many ways.

You could do it if you had a reason, but I wouldn't do the face, legs or tail. I have shaved cats down the skin with clippers due to matting. The fur doesn't always grow back the same.

Well, I wonder why you're asking the question? Is your kitty's fur heavily matted or do you want to keep him from shedding or what? I think common sense would tell you that cats - and dogs and all furry animals - have their hair for a reason - to keep them warm and cool. Cats without any hair have no protection from hot or cold (unless it's one that's been bred to be hairless, which I've never been able to figure out who would want a hairless cat).

So I would say it's a bad idea and could cause your kitty all kinds of problems - sunburn in the summer and way too cold in the colder winter climates. If he's matted, try a groomer - one that won't shave him within an inch.

I REALLY HOPE U DON'T HAVE ANY CATS

remember not to shave the cat during the winter if u let it go outside because it could get sick
give the cat frequent baths because it has nothing to absorb it's body oils
if u do want to shave Ur cat have it done by a professional

I would leave their whiskers and some hair on their feet. Sometimes, especially with long haired cats that matt, this is a preferred way to make them comfortable. Of course, this time of year, especially, you would need to keep them inside until enough grows back. Also, use a clipper with a 1/4-1/2" blade guard and do not use scissors. Cat skin is far to easily to accidently lacerate when you are trying to just cut out a matt.

...is this going to be done by you or a professional.....my mum couldnt brush her long haired cat any more so it got tangled and bad mattered hair which had to be shaved off...not completely to the raw skin but almost..and by a proffesional....the cat didnt mind so much as it was summer....if you have a reason such as this one i would understand but if there is no reason i wouldnt recommend it as how do you think the cat would feel?....would you like to have your hair fully shaved off????

No. I have a Maine Coon cat that has a very find undercoat and he mats just terrible. I brush him, but its not enough, it still mats. So I take him to a groomer and they buzz his hair all off to about 1/4 inch, leaving the hair long around his head and neck and a 3 to 4 inch piece of long hair at the end of his tail. He looks like a minature lion. He is much happier, especially in the summer and is able to keep himself much cleaner. He also doesn't get these horrendous hairballs that make him sick. So go for it.

You will have to give them baths frequently as they will not have any more hair to absorbed their natural oils, they would leave oil stains on your furniture.

If you really want to shave your cat(s) leave them a bit of hair. My Aunt does this and it helps the cat in the hot summers. Also, if you do want to shave them GET IT DONE BY A PROFESSIONAL!

If you want a hairless cat go to a shelter and see if they have some, also you can find them on petfinder.com

they would freeze to death in this cold weather without any hair. and plus you have to give them baths all the time. my friends have hairless cats and they take lots of care. and in the summer you even have to put special sunscreen on them so they don't get a sun burn.and you have to put sweaters on them in the winter.
