Hello. My recommendation would be to have the cat evaluated by your veterinarian before it is decided nothing can be done. An abdominal x-ray and ultrasound may be helpful in determining why your cat's abdomen may be distended. There is no way I or anyone on here could tell you what could be the cause of your cat's "bloating" without seeing the cat first. In my experience cats who are on there way out due to kidney failure typically don't want to eat, are very weak, and show other symptoms such as vomiting. However abdominal distension could be an indication of another serious health condition that needs to be determined. The common causes of abdominal distension in cats may include liver disease, heart disease, viral disease (FIP), or some type of tumor. Some of these can be treated depending on their severity. So the best thing would be to try to get a diagnosis first if you are able to before your cat's fate is decided.
I wish you luck

Even when there is nothing that can be done, sometimes it is just good to know that for certain so that you can quiet those thoughts that come into your mind that say, "Maybe there is still something I can do to help her or make her live longer." So when it is time for you cat to go finally, you will know that you did everything you could for her and there are no remaining doubts. This might also be the time to know for certain that the end is near and make a choice for your cat to limit it's suffering. It's worth the 20 or 30 dollar office visit just to have that peace of mind. I speak from experience, and I don't have a lot of money to throw around at vet's offices either.

I don't know, but the kitty in the picture is soo cute and makes me want to pet a kitty lol. You should ask next time you take your cat to the vet. You cat could just gain weight around her stomach, however, I do know if your cat has worms it would bloat her stomach. Considering its always been like this, I doubt this is the case, but it might be good to talk to your vet about it anyways, just to be on the safe side.

I'm no vet but if your kitty is in kidney failure why are you waiting to help her out...The bloating is from fluid retention or other things. kidneys filter things out that can be harmful. if she;s gaining weight she;s retaining byproducts........
My cat has a disease that I know is going to take his life.he's doing ok now but when he starts to be sick , cry with pain or just not enjoy life I will have to do the most humane thing that I can .I will put him down..I love him and don't want him to suffer just because I don't want to loose him....
Do the right thing by your cat . maybe it's getting close to the end of his time with you..I am sorry that he is sick. But do the right thing if it's time.....That's real love..

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.
They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!
This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.
It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

Sorry but your Mom should take the cat to the vet right away. It sounds like she is in failure. It would be cruel to make her suffer and I'm sure she is uncomfortable so please take her to the vet ASAP!
