Cats - February 2007

Today one of my cats was laying on the floor. and I noticed he was making a clicking sound with his teeth, sort of like we do when we are cold, and it looked like his body was shaking a little. He wasn't cold, because it was 75 today. Then he looked out the window, went to it and continued the noise. I didn't see anything outside. What happened? He has never done that before! He's been okay all day after that.

OK here's the thing he's very weak and I don't want him to die, we think he coughed up blood infront of our house. We think he's either been kicked or he drank poison of some kind! Help him please! the vet office is closed! What do I do! Help please... T_T

We have only one female cat and her litter pan smells desent for about three days after it is cleaned, then it just starts to smell horrible.I would love to know which clumping litter anyone has found to work well to control urine odor. We scoop it out at least once a day. The pan is covered with a swinging door.Cat is healthy.

Or wherever you keep their food? Mine will follow me in there and meow frantically. They are healthy and definitely well fed.

Every once in awhile my cat will cough--took her to the vet and he said they don't cough from hairballs which I thought was it---then he said it might be the kitty litter I use--I use the scoopable --fresh step--and he said the dust--but they added some kind of carbon so he said use arm and hammer which I think is dustier cuz it has baking soda..that didn't help either--It seems to be if she moves a certain way she coughs--not sure--anyone know if it sounds like the litter or something else.. The vet also said maybe asthma but said there wasn't anything you do for it--my cat is 9. Thx for any help!

I spayed my 5 yr old cat a week ago and she was never a nice kitty to my husband or anyone. She only loves me. Two days after the surgery, she has been very nice and letting him pet her, she purrs...Even though the vet told me that she would never change. She was being very naughty to the vets.
I want to know if spaying itself is causing her not to be as aggressive. Or might it be that we just moved to a new place.
I mean, cats do not change one day to another.

or
c)bring her home and let her suffer

I never heard of these before I got on Y/A so I guess it's an American invention.
What exactly is it, how does it work and where could I get one (or maybe more) ?

when i leave for work in the morning, my cats are sleeping on the bed. when i come home for lunch, they are in the same place, same position. i come home after work and they have moved no more than 2 inches. while i watch tv they lay on the chair nearby sleeping. and then at night they run around and make as much noise as possible.

why are they nocturnal?! does anyone know a real reason?

My cat disappeared for 6 days. When she came back she was very thin and had a cut or bite on her leg. The injury healed but now she is getting sores on her back by her tail. At first I thought she scrapped it on something in the house but now I am starting to think that is not the case. Once one starts to heal another appears and the fur is falling out. She continues to lick at the sores. Any comment would be helpful.

Our vet just put my cats on low-calorie food and a diet. I have to split a cup of food between them. They have always eaten together. I feed them once a day. Is it better to keep doing that, knowing the bigger and more "piggy" cat will eat most of the food (as he's always done)?
Or should I break it up to twice a day? Does it make a difference. I guess I'd like suggestions on how to feed the cats and get them to lose weight without separating them, ensuring the one cat doesn't hog it all.

My cat likes to drink water from the running faucet. But I've NEVER seen her drink from her water bowls (and I have 2 for her - one next to her food bowl and another one in a corner where she likes to hang out).

I'm worried that she doesn't drink enough water. Should I be? Can cats get dehydrated?

Does anyone know how I could train her to drink from her bowls?

I desperately want to adopt a cat when i turn 18 in a few months, but my dad is a bit allergic, and isn't even a fan of cats altogether. I'll pay for and take care of the cat myself, so my dad's allergy and dislike of cats are the only things standing in the way.

Maine Coon
Munchkin

Scottish Fold
York Chocolate.

Will these cats do good outdoors? (i want an outdoor/indoor cat)
Will they do good with a dog?
Will they get attacked by racoons?
Are they friendly?

I was given a cat that isnt newborn and she isnt litter box trained. How do you do it exactly? Is this easy or hard to do? Would it be easier just to let it outside when it needed to?

My female cat who is 2 started meowing really loud late at night. Funny thing is that she is fixed. We just moved to this house about a month ago. But she is fine during the days with no meowing problems. Before we moved here, we lived with my Mom for a month with no problems. HELP!

I took two abandoned cats in during the last cold snap. They've had all their shots/spayed/neutered/checked for parasites, FYI, don't worry :)
My two original cats aren't used to them yet, still hiss if they come too near. I figured this would happen, but is there any way to help them get along?
