I opened my bedroom door....and there they were lying together. The looks on their faces screamed pure guilt!

I had this problem years ago. My calico cat and my dauchund were trying to mate. This went on a lot. Probably nothing at all will happen but if they were successful the cat could be hurt or killed.
It is normal particulary if they are inside pets. My cat was raised by a dauchund. I am sure that was part of it.
Can you keep them seperated unless you are there to supervise. Punishing most animals only gets them to do it in secret when it comes to food and other strong drives.
So you aren't alone in your problem. If they mated you would probably no. The cat would scream.

close your bedroom door, lol you sdont want to keep cleaning bed lining.
or it might br a case of dograpescat,
in that case keep them apart its too abusive on the cat
