Get a sceond opinion. Just becuase kitty is 19 and is throwng up is no reason to give up!!! The question is, WHY is kitty throwing up. If that can be addressed, then presumably, kitty can be healed. NUTS! You need to take kitty to another vet and at least get a proper diagnosis for the violent vomiting! Some of the more common cause for vomiting in cats are:
1. Dietary indiscretion (eating inappropriate food/material)
2. Dietary intolerance
3. Infectious agents, such as bacteria, fungi, and parasites
4. Drugs and certain toxins
5. Obstruction/blockage of the stomach or intestinal tract
6. Metabolic diseases such as liver and kidney disease, hyperthyroidism
7. Abdominal disorders such as pancreatitis, abdominal tumors and adhesions, etc.
8. Motility disorders of the gastrointestinal tract that prevent the posterior movement of food
9. Inflammatory bowel diseases
10. Miscellaneous conditions such as gastric/duodenal ulcers, constipation, etc.
11. Cancer of the gastrointestinal tract
So, ask the vet, which is it? Is it treatable (presuably it is since the vet suggested s stay in hospital)?

Did he say what is the cause of her throwing up? Does she have an underlying medical problem? You do have a tough decision here. I always have asked my vet "What would you do if this was your pet?" if I was unsure and have always taken his advise. If you have the available funds and are willing to try, let the vet treat her there. Letting her suffer for me is out of the question and cruel. Put her to sleep if the vet can't help her or if you don't have the funds to treat her with at the vets. Would the vet be willing to work with you in treating her at home? I have treated many at home with my vets help, but it takes a lot of time and energy. It means loss of sleep, not going places, and commitment to give medicine or just needed attention. She has lived a good long life and she deserves the best you can give her, if it means putting her down in the end, then I would do it. I've made this same choice many times, sometimes putting one down was the answer, other times treating them with the vets help was needed to be tried first. I have the availability to be able to commit myself for at home care of my animals. My work other then home, grown children, 17 &10 yr. olds, is to do small animal rescures (volunteered).

Something is missing in your story. If the vet said he can't do anything, what's the point of keeping the cat there?
Also, the big question is why. Why is your cat throwing up rapidly? I mean cats throwing up is normal. It's a thing they do, but if something's wrong, then you have to know what's wrong.
Either way, don't let her suffer. You owe it to her to help her out.
I know it's hard. I have a 15 year old cat who has had some tough times lately. I'm going to have to decide something soon.

If she has no treatment options and she's 19, I would euathanize. If anything the vet explained to you is not clear, call him or her up or seek a second opinion. Do not let her suffer at home and die slowly on her own. That's heartless.

This question breaks my heart.
19 years for a cat is like over 100 as a human. I'd put her down and let her go home.

There's a motto out there, that states its not the quantity of life, but the quality of life. Check with the vet first to ensure she can live further or not. The vet will make the determination of whether or not, she will live.

I would try and keep her at the vet for a few days just to ease your mind that you did everything that you could. After that if she dosen't get any better, you may have to consider putting her down.

If the cat is 19, and is suffering..........you should put her to sleep.
Since the vet stated that there is nothing they can do, why keep her suffering for more days?
I think her time has come to a end.......make the "good pet owner" decision and put her to rest. She gave you 19 good years.......give her peace.

Hey man, the cat is 19! I think the time has come although I know its hard
Let the cat go. Hold her while she is put to sleep. Then, cry. Then, think of the good times you had together.
Sometimes you just have to let go and it may be that time.
