An abscess is a walled-off area of pus and debris created by the immune system in an effort to contain an infection. It has to be lanced, or surgically drained.
A tumor is a growth of abnormal cells- it is usually removed surgically.
Either way your kitty needs the vet to take care of his problem. Wait for the vet to give you more direction.

If it is an abcess behind the cat's eye, pus will eventually drain via the blood vessels and tear ducts of the eye. Did the vet give you antibiotics to give to your cat just in case it is an abcess? If it is a tumor, it cannot go away except through surgery.

It is an abcess, that is a pus/infection filled enclosure that unless drained, the cat can die.
