Cats - December 2006

About two thirds of my neighbors have cats. THe rest, including me (I have a dog) don't. Well, in my neighborhood, the dogs stay outside chained up (except for mine). And the cats? THEY RUN LOOSE. Just now, a neighbor's cat went into my gardening shed. They all run into the non-catowners yards, doodoo, or mate with other cats and stuff. Many people I know who live here tell me I should do something. The cats are free. The 'hood is infront of the woods, and the cats come home and leave just as the please. The people practically don't own them! The catss just leave, have pleasure in the woods/our yards, do their thing, and come back home to eat, over and over again. What should I do??

My cat's coat is healthy, but since it's winter and my apartment complex is dry due to the furance downstairs, I noticed it was just feeling really dry...

When I pet him there's often a lot of static and I accidently shock him. He doesn't like it obviously, and kind of shys away sometimes when I try to pat him.

Are there any easy remedies that I could pick up at a pet shop?

Don't sugguest anything ment for humans... I won't try them!!

my friend recently bought me a tibetan long haired yak as a house warming gift the trouble is the spare room is too small and weve got the mother in law coming for christmas and i dare'nt put her in with it as its starting to smell - we also have a faeces control problem and ive spotted my husband having a dump and blaming the yak i dont want to punish poor old cecil when it quite clearly is my husband with the bowel movement problem. Other thing is my son has started to follow in his fathers footsteps! this really is getting out of control and dont know what to do any suggestions ?

Boil 'em, fry 'em, steal it from your neighbor and eat it alive. Either way you're gauranteed to be labeled a monster. I'm a human too you know and I've got feelings for all living animals...especially those delicios cats. I've been thinking of moving to China Town so I won't be ridiculed but embraced, what should I do?

I have a really bad cold, I can't Scream, it takes forever for the meds to works and once they do they don't last long, I'm super hoarse, and I feel like I'm going to go BOOM. My Cat has been slepping with me for the past 24 hours, and I wanted to make sure she won't catch one from me. Can she catch one from me or only from cats?

when i found my stray cat I thought it was a girl, but now we know it is a boy! Its original name was pixie but that sounds too girlish for boy name. He doesn't know his name yet so we could change it but to what? He is very active. Color: Black with gray stripes and a whit belly and 4 white paws. He also loves to misbehave alot! What can I name him?

I bought one of these back in '98 when there were tons of comercials on TV for it.
The catch phrase was that you'd know it was "the real thing" if it had a cat paw on the handle.
It was the best litter box ever! The ones with "as seen on TV" now are "Lift 'n' Sift" which is NOT the same thing. This one has two tubs and a litter strainer. You must poor the litter out of one tub into the other - wich kicks up dust (making me sneeze).

We have two kittens, born about three weeks ago. They were healthy and frisky. But just this morning, there seemed to be a problem with one of them. She won't eat or nurse, she is lethargic and floppy, and at one point she was mewing her head off. Now she's just sleeping on the pillow face down. You'd think she was dead except for her steady breathing.
What is wrong with her?

I have a 12-15 year old male cat(maybe even older, he was a stray and we could never pinpoint his age), never had a problem with him going anywhere but the litterbox since I have had him. I adopted a puppy almost a year ago and there are 2 other adult cats in the home. Almost 2 months ago, he started urinating in the family room, not all the time but enough to make it very unpleasent. He is not straining to pee nor is there blood in the urine or stool. I picked up a product called Health Alert which is a kitty litter with blood detection granules in it and put it in a new box and put it in my room where the other cats won't pee into. So far he has not used this box. I am taking him to the vet, but I just wanted to know if anybody else has had a problem like this and what the cause was. He hates the dog and also doesn't really like the other cats, could this be age or a behavioral problem? Or does it sound like a UTI? Anybody with the same experience please help. Thanks

I've got a 16 year old cat that, within the past year, has begun throwing up whenever he's displeased with us. He'll hack if he doesn't get fed on time (by HIS standards, which is the moment we wake up and the moment we walk through the door in the evening), he'll throw up on the chair of the person who scolded him or woke him from a nap, if we're eating something he wants (and not sharing) he'll hack under the table.

It's not random. He doesn't throw up if no one is home or if no one is watching him, or if he's recently gotten a "treat" of any kind.

Any idea how I can train him OUT of this unhealthy and messy habit?

why does a cat have to be right there watching you when your cleaning its litter box? is it a territory kind of thing or what?

Background: The emergency vet thinks my kitten might have an ear infection. She is acting very sick and lethargic and squeals when you tough her head, especially one of her ears. He cleaned out her ears extensively and then gave her some drops to use to treat the infection. She also has some morphine drops we're putting under her tongue for the pain.

Other background is that when I adopted her from the shelter her ears were nasty. My vet cleaned them out somewhat and then put in some mite medicine. About a week later I noticed her acting withdrawn. I thought she had turned shy and would grow out of it but last night I realized it was medical when she meowed really loud when I touched her head.

My cat cries and cries at our bedroom door in the mornings when we have the door closed still. He used to pee on the bed so he's not allowed in there anymore. I was just wondering if they can sense that we are in there or if he cries even when we're not in there. Any explanation behind that?

My cat is as fat as Garfield, and just as lazy as him too. I have tried reducing the ammount of food I put in her bowl but that hasn't really helped.
