I have a 12-15 year old male cat(maybe even older, he was a stray and we could never pinpoint his age), never had a problem with him going anywhere but the litterbox since I have had him. I adopted a puppy almost a year ago and there are 2 other adult cats in the home. Almost 2 months ago, he started urinating in the family room, not all the time but enough to make it very unpleasent. He is not straining to pee nor is there blood in the urine or stool. I picked up a product called Health Alert which is a kitty litter with blood detection granules in it and put it in a new box and put it in my room where the other cats won't pee into. So far he has not used this box. I am taking him to the vet, but I just wanted to know if anybody else has had a problem like this and what the cause was. He hates the dog and also doesn't really like the other cats, could this be age or a behavioral problem? Or does it sound like a UTI? Anybody with the same experience please help. Thanks

You cat is getting old and his organs may be shutting down
This happened with my cat Dingles she started peeing on the carpet which was something she had never done before, we took her to the vet to see if she had a bladder problem and she didn't but the vet informed us she was dying her organs were shutting down and soon she'd have to be put to sleep she lived 6 more weeks then we had to put her to rest

Sounds like UTI to me. My cat was doing the same thing peeing on the carpet. Vet did a urinalysis and detected crystals in the urine. Now that she is on prescription food to treat it, she hasn't peed on the carpet in a couple months. We also put her in her litterbox a few times a day for 2 - 3 weeks to promote her to use the box instead of carpet or furniture. So far so good.

UTI is likely, or he had a UTI and it hurt, and he associated pain with using the litter box. Make sure you ask about reconditioning him to use the litter box when you are at the vet. Since this is a recent change in behavior for him, it's likely that there is a medical reason for this. You will also want an enzymatic urine cleaner to thoroughly remove the urine from the family room.

i've got had cats all my life. The water bottle works, this i know. whilst the cat does this it oftentimes skill that different cats have lived there and that they are marking there territory yet whilst this has got here approximately plenty over the years the terrific element of do is to initiate attempting to coach the cat now to apply the clutter container. whilst the cat urinates on the floor spray the cat with water and tell it no. After that has been achieved take a twig bottle with 0.5 vinegar and 0.5 water and saturate the spot then take baking soda and sprinkle form of heavily over that. permit the baking soda take up the vinegar and water besides because of fact the urine and then vacuum the spot. ultimately the cat won't try this to any extent further. Cats dislike the scent of vinegar so besides getting rid of the ammonia scent left from the cat it leaves a scent that for the duration of straightforward terms the cats can scent to tell them to no longer urinate there back. I even have 4 cats now and have had many in my lifetime I swear with the help of this technique. I even have had many others attempt this and that they tell me it works for them too.

Since this is a new problem, rather than one that started with the puppy, it's probably not a territory thing. He is, however, getting on in age. Especially if he's closer to 15. He might be just beginning to experience UTI. A vet could tell you better.

Good luck!

When animals get old they tend to start urinating around the house. My friend just had to put his cat down because his cat kept doing it everywhere and could barely walk.

Sounds to me like he is jealous of the other animals.Try separating her from the others when you go out {put her close to her littler box}. He is doing this to get your full attention since there are other animals in the house. Older animals tend to want more attention.
