My cat's coat is healthy, but since it's winter and my apartment complex is dry due to the furance downstairs, I noticed it was just feeling really dry...

When I pet him there's often a lot of static and I accidently shock him. He doesn't like it obviously, and kind of shys away sometimes when I try to pat him.

Are there any easy remedies that I could pick up at a pet shop?

Don't sugguest anything ment for humans... I won't try them!!

I used to burn wood to heat my house and my cats were always staticky so what I did was put bowls of water around each vent and keep them full of water, not only did it solve the problem but the cats loved to drink out of them and my skin even felt better. I used a larger size bowl depending on your cats size use the size that would be safest for your cat. It really did work I also notice they seemed to drink more water I think it was the novelty of having bowls every where. Good luck

Hmmm did your vet check the cat's thyroid? This causes dry skin and itching. Dry skin does most definitely itch. I found a product made with aloe for cats, it is called Aloe-Med Medicated Pet Lotion and it is put out by Kenic. I paid $6.99 + tax for an 8 oz. bottle. My cat had really dry, itchy skin. I used this product (sorry don't remember the name) and had excellent results. If the vet told you to put olive oil in her food, then I would try it. Also did the vet check for ear mites? This will cause intense itching of the ears and make the fur come out.

In winter its always dry, even I'm staticy all the time, and cats get that way too, sometimes you have to just sit it out untill it humidifies a little, buy a humidifier, buy some lotion for youself, and just be gentle and loving to your kitty. Otherwise I don't know.

You might try some cat vitamins at a pet store. Or you might change his food to something with a bit more oil.

Get a room humidifier. Especially in an apartment (small space, small amount of air), just one humidifier can make a big difference. (Our cats are super-staticky right now, and we need to get our humidifiers set up soon so they don't keep on shocking themselves and us!!)
