Cats - December 2006

My cat is about two years old and she is a little on the heavy side, probably about 10 to 13 lbs. I want so badly not to have to declaw her, but alot of rental places require your cat to be declawed if they are going to allow the cat to live there.

What might be causing the sores? The vet has ruled out fleas and mites, etc, and seems to think it is allergies. But nothing we do makes it better. It just keeps getting worse, and this latest sore stays raw and festering. I don't know what to do to help it to heal.

My cat was sitting on me when he shook his head and cat spit fell on me. What was that about? Is he turning into a dog?

my kitty is 4 months old. He is not eating or drinking for three days and has been vomiting. His food is the same and he never goes outside. Should I call the vet or will he get better in a few days. I have been trying to give him water with a little medicine dropper but I am afraid it is not enough. What should I do?

I have 2 7 month old female cats and when they go get a drink of water out of their bowl they move their paws scratching at the floor like they would do in a cat box, why is that? Also when they eat their wet food they take their paws and scoop the food up with their paws and eat it like that or throw it on the floor and eat it. Help please. Thanks, Heidi.

Two of my three felines has a cold which is making their third eyelid stay 1/2 open all the time. I just spend $100 to rule out feline leukemia and feline AIDS and other serious things and came home with eye drops for them.

Today, the kitten sneezed right in my left eye. I rinsed it out but, is it possible I will get what they have?

This is actually a serious question. I own 3 cats, one of them is a 5 year old ragdoll (16lb) boy with sealpoint pattern and blue eyes. I only have him since a few weeks and he finally settled in. I keep noticing that his eye movement when he's looking around seems to be different from my other cats. You can see his eyes move from left to right and back, quite a bit when he looks around - my other cats do focus on either me or something else rather quickly. His vision seems to be good, he's healthy & active. Anyone has any insight while his eye movement seems very untypical for a cat?.

I left my cat in my car for 5 minutes, and she ended up peeing on the carpet at the front passenger's side. Now my car smells really really bad, I have to drive with my windows down in 40 degree F weather! How do I get the smell out? I tried store bought sprays. Is there any other way? I can't stand it! Thanks for all the help!

My 5 year old siamese has occasionally peed in our bathroom sink, and sometimes will have even used the toilet... (no kidding)
The last few nights she has been peeing in weird places, first night she jumped up on the bed with me, and actually peed on me. I figured she was mad because I got home late and really hadn't paid much attention to her. Lastnight she peed on her cat bed, and later that same evening got in the bathroom sink pee. This is really random, both cat boxes are clean, she doen't seem to be ill... My other 1 year old cat is starting weird peeing behavior too, caught her in my laundry basket. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks-

ATTENTION ALL CATLOVERS OUT THERE :
Now don't get me wrong I LOVE "Lady&The Tramp" , who out there thinks that Walt Disney makes WAY too many dog movies and not enough cat movies? I mean besides "Lady & The Tramp" there's all those " Air Bud " movies, " 101 Dalmations" ( both live version and animated version ), Fox & THe Hound # 1 & #2 , Coyotes Lamant , The Pluto cartoons and " The Ugly Dachunsnd " , which by the way is about a Great Dane and not a weirner dog, and other Disney dog movies too numerous to mention !!! So give me a holler and let me know what ya'll think !!! - Siamese Cat Queen

I recently moved into a new apartment. I put my cats litterbox in a closet to keep it out of the open and I leave the door open wide enough for her to get in and out. For the first few weeks she was fine, pooped in her box like a normal cat. Now, for the past 3 weeks or so, she is pooping on the carpet, either right in front of the litterbox or about a foot away from it outside the closet! My Chihuahua sometimes has accidents and goes on the floor, so I thought maybe my cat thinks its okay to do.... but I have had my Chihuahua for nearly 2 years and it never happened until recently.

Anybody else have this issue? Sometimes I think shes trying to get attention, but I dont think shes that smart. I don't know what her issue is but its REALLY starting to piss me off :(
